May 1 Ryan Yao, Coe, So.
Went 10-1 during the Iowa Conference Championship including 6-0 in singles and 4-1 in doubles leading the Kohawks to its fifth straight Conference team title and winning the Flight A singles Championship. In the Individual Tournament, Yao defeated Wartburg’s Greg Koenen (6-0, 6-0), Luther’s Bjorn Hanson (6-2, 6-2), Wartburg’s Mark Giesmann (6-0, 6-2), Luther’s Jared Wiklund (6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals) and Central’s Nick Cochrane (6-4, 6-0 in the Championship match). In doubles of the Individual Tournament, he and partner Jake Michael defeated Cornell’s Tom Jennings/Kent Lehr (9-7) before losing the in quarterfinals to the top-seeded team and eventual Champion from Luther, Jono Martin/Brad Nelson (8-6). In the Team Tournament, Yao went 1-0 in singles with two unfinished matches and 3-0 in doubles.
April 24 Nick Cochrane, Central, Jr.
4-0 during the week with two victories at #1 singles and #1 doubles. In singles play, defeated Grinnell’s Julian West (6-1, 6-1) and Augustana (Ill.)’s John Feehan (6-2, 7-6). Teamed with Aaron Enderlin to post an 8-4 victory over Grinnell and an 8-6 victory over Augustana in doubles play.
April 17 Matt Olson, Luther, Fr.
3-0 during the week with two victories at #1 singles and a victory at #2 doubles as Luther improved to 23-7 on the season to set a school record for wins in a season. Posted identical 6-1, 6-1 singles victories over Buena Vista’s Greg Hamman and Loras’ Tim Muller. In doubles with Christian Klein, registered an 8-2 win over Lawrence.
April 10 Ryan Yao, Coe, Jr.
Went 5-1 during the week including 2-1 at #1 singles against ranked individuals in three matches against ranked teams. Defeated the 42nd ranked national player Andrew Danos of Goucher (7-5, 7-6) and the 22nd ranked player in the Atlantic South region Tyler Robinson of Salisbury (6-3, 6-2). Lone loss was a 6-3, 6-3 defeat to Mary Washington’s Paul Bristow, the seventh-ranked player in the nation. In doubles play with partner Jake Michael, posted 8-2 victories over Mary Washington and Salisbury, and an 8-3 win over Goucher.
April 3 Christian Klein, Luther, Sr.
3-1 during the week including 2-0 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles. At #2 singles, he posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Mark Hallstrom Bethel (Minn.). At #3 singles, posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Blair Madsen of St. Thomas (Minn.), the 10th ranked team in the Central region. Klein, and partner Matt Olson, defeated Bethel (8-1) at #2 doubles, and lost at the same position to St. Thomas (8-6).
March 27 Chad Evans, Coe, So.
5-1 during the week with three singles victories and two doubles victories. In singles, he defeated Illinois Wesleyan’s Pat Fischer (6-2, 7-6) at #3, and had a pair of wins at #4 singles – over Central’s Jared Fedderson (6-0, 6-0) and Monmouth (Ill.)’s Greg Bouslog (6-2, 6-0). At #1 doubles, partnered with Chris Paasch for an 8-4 win over Central’s Nick Cochrane/Aaron Enderlin, the 18th ranked doubles team in the Central Region. Also defeated Illinois Wesleyan’s Jason Love/Mike O’Keefe (9-7) but suffered a 9-8 loss to Monmouth’s Jared Kunkle/Kevin Kamenjalin.
March 20 Ryan Yao, Coe, So.
4-0 record during the week with two victories at #1 singles, one at #2 doubles and one at #3 doubles. In singles, defeated St. Norbert’s Aaron Sunday, the 45th ranked player in the nation and 11th ranked player in the Central Region (6-4, 6-3). Also recorded a singles victory over Grinnell’s Julian West (6-0, 6-0). In doubles, with partner Jake Michael defeated Grinnell (8-4) at #3 doubles and St. Norbert (8-1) at #2 doubles.
March 13 Ryan Yao, Coe, So.
5-1 during the week including a 4-0 mark against Division II opponents Grand Valley State and Michigan Tech. At #1 singles, posted victories over Grand Valley State’s Kyle Dehne (6-3, 6-0) and Michigan Tech’s Chris Zellner (6-4, 6-1). In doubles, with partner Jake Michael defeated Michigan Tech (8-5) and the University of Rochester (8-3) at #2, and Grand Valley State (8-5) at #3. Only loss of the week came at #1 singles to Eric Hansen of the Northeast Region’s #7th ranked team, Rochester.
March 6 Kent Lehr, Cornell, Jr.
5-0 during the week with two victories at #1 singles and #1 doubles, and one victory at #2 doubles. In singles play, defeated Monmouth (Ill.)’s Jared Kunkle (6-3, 6-2) and Grinnell’s Julian West (6-1, 6-2). Teamed with Tom Jennings to post 8-4 and 8-6 victories over Monmouth and Grinnell, respectively, at #1 doubles. With Seth Henson posted an 8-0 victory over Buena Vista’s Brock Wheeler/Jeff Shinrock at #2 doubles.
February 27 Ryan Yao, Coe, So.
Went 4-2 during the week with his losses coming against Division I Creighton. At #1-singles defeated Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Todd Miller (6-2, 6-0) and Wheaton (Ill.)’s Joe Williams (6-2, 6-3). Took Creighton’s Tom McCarthy to three sets before suffering the loss (6-4, 4-6, 6-10). Yao, and doubles partner Jake Michael defeated Oshkosh, 8-1, and Wheaton, 8-5. The duo lost 8-6 to Creighton.
February 20 Nick Cochrane, Central, Jr.
Went 4-0 during the week with a pair of victories at #1 singles and #1 doubles. In singles action, defeated Nebraska Wesleyan’s Andy Huls (6-3, 6-3) and Monmouth (Ill.)’s Jared Kunkle (6-1, 6-3). With partner Aaron Enderlin, registered an 8-4 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan and an 8-6 victory over Monmouth (Ill.) in doubles play.
February 6 Jono Martin, Luther, Fr.
Went 4-2 during the week going 2-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles. Posted straight set victories at #2 singles over players from the #10 and #11 ranked teams in the Midwest – University of Chicago and Wisconsin-Whitewater. Lost at #1 singles to Wisconsin-Oshkosh. At doubles, with partner Brad Nelson defeated Chicago and Oshkosh at #1 but lost at #2 to Whitewater.
January 30 Jeff White, Coe, Sr.
4-0 during the week in season-opening dual victories over Nebraska Wesleyan (6-1) and Wartburg (7-0). At #2 singles, he defeated Nebraska Wesleyan’s Jeff Salem (6-3, 6-0) and Wartburg’s Greg Koenen (6-0, 6-1). At #2 doubles, with partner Ryan Krabbe, posted an 8-1 win over Nebraska Wesleyan and an 8-2 win over Wartburg.
