WARTBURG'S DOHLMAN AND LORAS' BROWN NAMED IIAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

MOUNT VERNON, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 13. Wartburg College volleyball player Dia Dohlman (Eldora, Iowa/Eldora-New Providence HS) was selected IIAC Female Athlete of the Week and Loras College football player Jeremy Brown (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson HS) was selected IIAC Male Athlete of the Week.

Dohlman, a junior outside hitter, recorded three double-doubles during the week and was named to the Illinois Wesleyan All-Tournament Team, her fifth such honor of the season. She finished the week with 69 kills, 75 digs and eight blocks in 19 games. She had at least 11 digs in each of the five matches, including 18 digs against Millikin and Illinois Wesleyan. Dohlman also recorded nine or more kills in each match, with a weekly high of 20 in a five-game loss to Illinois Wesleyan.

Brown, a junior tailback, amassed 272 all-purpose yards in Loras’ 35-19 victory over Buena Vista. He rushed for a career-high 232 yards on 30 carries and scored two touchdowns (5 and 23 yards). He also returned three kicks for 38 yards and one punt for two yards.

The IIAC also announced today the Players of the Week for the Conference’s seven sports in competition during the week. Dohlman and Brown earned the honors for volleyball and football, respectively, while the following individuals where recognized for their athletic achievements.

Men’s Cross Country: Loras College junior Marcus Murphy (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny HS) finished second in the Pre-National Meet at St. Olaf College in a time of 26:09.4, 10.4 seconds behind the winner of the 327-runner field.

Women’s Cross Country: Wartburg College sophomore Missy Buttry (Shenandoah, Iowa/Shenandoah HS) won the Pre-National Meet at St. Olaf College in a time of 22:03.4, 50 seconds ahead of the second place finisher in the 387-runner field. It was Buttry’s third individual title in as many races this year.

Men’s Soccer: Luther College senior goalkeeper Rick Isaacson (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale HS) posted a 3-0 record during the week, surrendering just one goal in three contests. He made six saves in a 5-0 victory over Wartburg and 10 saves in a 4-0 victory over Simpson, earning his seventh and eighth shutouts of the season. He made four saves and surrendered his lone goal of the week in a 2-1 victory over Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Women’s Soccer: Luther College sophomore forward Katie Pettigrew (Farmington, N.M./Farmington HS) scored six goals in three games during the week. She scored three goals in a 4-0 victory over Wartburg, scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Simpson and scored two goals in a 4-2 victory over Wisconsin-Whitewater. She has 25 goals on the season, which ranks among the national leaders.

Tennis: Cornell College senior Lindsey Pfalmer (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer HS) posted a 6-1 overall record including a 4-1 record at the Iowa Conference Tournament. She went 3-0 during the week at #1 singles, 2-0 in the Conference Tournament. Along with doubles partner Steph Froehlich, she posted a 3-1 record at #1 doubles. The lone defeat came in the Championship match of the Conference Tournament to Luther’s Miriam Blom and Tara Huinker.
