MOUNT VERNON, IOWA . . . The Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its Male
and Female Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, November
24. Cornell College basketball player Luke Feddersen (Davenport,
Iowa/Assumption HS) was named IIAC Male Athlete of the Week and
Central College basketball player Amy Steenhoek (Pella,
Iowa/Pella HS) was named IIAC Female Athlete of the Week.
Feddersen, a senior center, was named to the Wisconsin-Eau
Claire All-Tournament Team averaging 20.0 points and 10.5 rebounds
per game during the Tournament. He was the Tournament’s leading
rebounder (five offensive-16 defensive) and shot 68.4 percent from
the floor (13-for-19) in the two games. In an opening round loss
to the host, he scored 18 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the floor
and 6-for-9 shooting from the free throw line. He also grabbed nine
rebounds including eight defensive, had one steal and two blocks.
In the consolation game, a 74-62 victory over Northland (Wis.) College,
Feddersen had 22 points, 12 rebounds (eight defensive), two assists,
one steal and one block.
Steenhoek, a senior forward, surpassed the 1,000
career point plateau with 43 points in two contests during the week.
In a two-point season opening loss to Dordt College, she had 20
points on 9-for-25 shooting from the floor and 2-for-5 shooting
from the free throw line. She also grabbed 11 rebounds (seven defensive),
had an assist and a steal. In a 79-55 loss to Northwestern (Iowa)
College, she scored 23 points on 10-for-18 shooting, grabbed eight
rebounds (seven defensive), and had an assist and a steal.
The IIAC also announced on Tuesday the Players
of the Week for the Conference’s three sports in competition during
the week. Feddersen and Steenhoek were named men’s and women’s basketball
Players of the Week and Loras College senior Chris Vogel
(Elkhorn, Wis./Mayville HS) was named IIAC Wrestler of
the Week.
Vogel was named the Outstanding Wrestler at the
Concordia (Wis.) Open having won the 149-pound weight class, winning
all five matches by decision. He defeated Elmhurst’s Matt Kuschert,
6-2; unattached wrestler Joe Vanevenhoven, 8-6; Wisconsin-Parkside’s
O’Bryan Mungon, 9-2; Wisconsin-Parkside’s Victor Juarez, 8-2; and
Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Joel Dziedzic, 5-3.
