COE'S BARNES NAMED MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Coe College senior Nick Barnes (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington HS) has been named the IIAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 7.

For the second time this season, Barnes recorded a singles and doubles victory over a Division I opponent. In a 4-3 Coe victory over the University of Connecticut, he defeated Matt Stinson in three sets. After dropping the first set 4-6, Barnes won the second and third sets, 6-4, 6-3 to improve to 10-0 in singles this season. He is just three singles victories shy of tying for second on Coe’s career win list.

In doubles, Barnes and partner Adam Elliott defeated UCONN’s Stinson/Mike Louis, 8-1. Barnes improved to 12-0 in doubles action this season, including 10-0 with Elliott.
