CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that
Coe College football player Joe Brannen (Colo,
Iowa/Colo-NESCO HS) and Luther College soccer player Emily
Jacob (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan HS) were named IIAC Male
and Female Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October
26.
Brannen, a junior quarterback, led Coe to a 66-63
victory over Cornell College in the 113th meeting between the two
schools. Brannen completed 25-of-34 passes for 420 yards and five
touchdowns, finishing with a pass efficiency rating of 225.82. His
five touchdown passes tied the school record and his 420 passing
yards are the second-most in school history. Brannen also carried
the ball five times for 26 yards and two touchdowns. Coe and Cornell
set an NCAA Division III record with the 129 combined points.
Jacob, a freshman midfielder, scored four goals
and added one assist in three games during the week. She scored
one goal in a 4-0 victory over the University of Dubuque and a 2-1
loss to Loras College, Luther’s first Conference loss of the season.
Jacob finished the week with two goals, including the game winner,
and an assist in a 5-0 victory over Clarke College.
The IIAC also announced its Players of the Week
for the Conference’s four sports in competition during the week.
Brannen and Jacob earned the weekly honors for football and women’s
soccer, respectively, while the following individuals were recognized
for their athletic performances.
Men’s Soccer: Luther
College junior forward Eric Henderson (Clive, Iowa/Valley
HS) scored three goals and one assist in three games during the
week. After being held scoreless in the Norse’s 2-0 victory over
the University of Dubuque, he scored twice, including the game winner,
in a 3-2 victory over Loras College, handing the Duhawks’ their
first IIAC loss of the season. Henderson also scored the game winning
goal and added an assist in an 8-0 victory over Clarke College.
Volleyball: Loras College
senior setter Kristen Anderson (Burbank, Ill./Queen
of Peace HS) averaged 11.28 assists, 4.89 digs and 1.56 kills per
game in five matches during the week. With her 203 assists during
the week, she became the second Loras player to surpass the 3,000
career assist mark. Anderson was named to the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse
Halloween Classic All-Tournament Team.
