COE’S YAO NAMED IIAC TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Coe College sophomore Ryan Yao (Naperville, Ill./Nequa Valley) was named IIAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 13.

Yao, a sophomore, posted a 5-1 record during the week including a 4-0 mark against Division II opponents Grand Valley State and Michigan Tech. At #1 singles, he posted victories over Grand Valley State’s Kyle Dehne (6-3, 6-0) and Michigan Tech’s Chris Zellner (6-4, 6-1). In doubles, Yao and partner Jake Michael defeated Michigan Tech (8-5) and the University of Rochester (8-3) at #2, and Grand Valley State (8-5) at #3. Yao’s only loss of the week came at #1 singles to Eric Hansen of the Northeast Region’s #7th ranked team, Rochester.
