CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that
Wartburg College cross country runner Missy Buttry (Shenandoah,
Iowa/Shenandoah-Essex) and Simpson College football player Scott
McCarty (Spencer, Iowa/Spencer) were named IIAC Female
and Male Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October
17.
Buttry, a senior, won the Tori Neubauer Invitational
at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. She finished the 6,000-meter
race in 20:03.9, 2:17 ahead of her closest competitor in the 237-runner
race.
McCarty, a junior quarterback, had a 230.58 passing
efficiency and five touchdowns (four passing, one rushing) in the
Storm’s 37-7 victory over Loras. He completed 22-of-29 passes for
377 yards and had a 14-yard touchdown run. His 377 passing yards
and four touchdowns are the fourth-highest single game total in
school history.
The IIAC also announced on Monday the Performer
of the Week in six Conference sports in competition. Buttry and
McCarty earned the weekly honor in their respective sport, while
the following individuals were recognized for the athletic performances.
Men’s Cross Country: Wartburg
College senior Josh Moen (Fairbank, Iowa/Wapsie
Valley) finished third of 317 runners at the Jim Drews Invitational
at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. He ran a time of 24:30.8
finishing behind two runners from Division I University of Minnesota
including 18-seconds behind the winner, a two-time Division I national
qualifier.
Women’s Soccer: Loras
College senior forward Michelle Wieser (Dubuque,
Iowa/Senior) scored five points in three games during the week including
two goals and one assist. She scored the game-tying goal in Loras’
1-1 tie with Division I Western Illinois. She also netted a goal
in a 7-1 victory over Buena Vista and assisted on Loras’ lone goal
in a 1-0 victory over Cornell. The Duhawks have extended their regular
season unbeaten streak to 32 straight.
Men’s Soccer: Wartburg
College sophomore forward Harrison Kibombo-Lugujjo (Uganda)
scored three goals in two matches during the week as the Knights
extended their unbeaten streak to 10 straight. In a 5-2 victory
over Luther, Kibombo-Lugujjo scored two second half goals to break
open a one-goal game at halftime. He also netted a goal in a 4-0
victory over Cornell.
Volleyball: University
of Dubuque freshman setter Amber Rippentrop (Charles
City, Iowa/Charles City) was named to the Illinois Wesleyan All-Tournament
Team leading the Spartans to a 4-0 record at the Tournament. She
averaged 12.06 assists and 3.59 digs per game in 17 games during
the week, recording double-doubles in all five matches. Rippentrop
had 33 assists and 13 digs in a 3-0 victory over Clarke, 50 assists
and 10 digs in a 3-1 victory over Illinois Wesleyan, 36 assists
and 13 digs in a 3-0 win over Carroll and 56 assists and 15 digs
in a 3-1 victory over Dominican (Ill.). She recorded five of her
10 services aces during the week in the Illinois Wesleyan match.
In Dubuque’s only loss of the week, 3-0 to Luther, she had 30 assists
and 10 digs.
