CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that
Central College volleyball player Katie Pederson
(Lake Mills, Iowa/Lake Mills) and Wartburg College soccer player
Collin Lane (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) were named
IIAC Female and Male Athletes of the Week for the period ending
Sunday, November 7.
Pederson, a junior middle hitter, hit .315, and
averaged 3.14 kills and 1.86 blocks per game in four matches during
the week, leading Central to its first Iowa Conference Tournament
title since 2001. In the regular season finale, a 3-0 victory over
Cornell, she had six kills. In the quarterfinals of the Iowa Conference
Tournament, a 3-0 victory over Luther, she had eight kills, four
blocks and three digs. Pederson set a school record with 18 blocks
(five solo) in a 3-2 victory over Simpson in the semifinals, also
contributing 15 kills and hitting .310. She hit .419 with 15 kills
and three blocks in a sweep of Cornell in the Championship match.
Lane, a senior goaltender, posted back-to-back
shutouts in the Iowa Conference soccer Tournament, leading the Knights
to their second straight Tournament title and second straight NCAA
Tournament berth. He extended his shutout streak to 450:56 with
a two-save performance in a 3-0 win over Buena Vista in the semifinals
and an eight-save performance in a 2-0 win over Loras in the Championship
match.
The IIAC also announced on Monday the Performer
of the Week in six Conference sports in competition. Pederson and
Lane earned the weekly honor in their respective sport, while the
following individuals were recognized for the athletic performances.
Football: Central College
senior quarterback Mark Isaacson (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale)
helped Central tie a team record for touchdown passes in a game
as he threw for four and caught another in a 35-16 victory over
first-place Buena Vista. He completed 21-of-37 passes for 279 yards
and four touchdowns. He caught a four-yard pass from running back
Durk Pearston to close out the game’s scoring and also rushed for
eight yards on four carries. With one game remaining, Isaacson set
the school record for passing yards in a season (1,883 yards) and
moved into second on the school’s career passing list (4,331 yards).
Women’s Soccer: Luther
College senior forward Katie Pettigrew (Farminton,
N.M./Farminton) became the NCAA all-time leader in career goals
scored with her three goals in the Iowa Conference Tournament to
finish her career with 124 goals. She scored the game-winning goal
in the Norse’s 2-0 semifinal victory over Simpson and scored both
of her team’s goals in a 3-2 loss to Loras in the Championship match.
Pettigrew also holds the NCAA career points record with 297.
Women’s Swimming: Luther
College sophomore Kristine Brick (Central City,
S.D./Lead) set two pool records in Luther’s 190-40 dual victory
over St. Mary’s (Minn.). She won the 200-yard individual medley
in 2:18.14 and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.13. Brick was also
a member of the first-place 200-yard medley relay team, swimming
a 27.91 second split as the team swam a time of 1:58.87.
Men’s Swimming: Luther
College freshman Alex Eganhouse (Cedar Rapids,
Iowa/Washington) set a pool record in the 1-meter diving with a
point total of 177.10 in his first-ever diving competition at any
level.
