CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that
Cornell College basketball player Dan McClanahan (Davenport,
Iowa/Assumption) and Buena Vista University basketball player Kelli
Staley (Charter Oak, Iowa/Boyer Valley) were named IIAC
Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday,
November 28.
McClanahan, a senior forward, averaged 38.0 points,
10.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in two games during the week. He shot
68.3 percent from the floor (28-of-41) and 69.0 percent from the
free throw line (20-of-29) in victories over Grinnell (125-119)
and MacMurray (116-99). Against Grinnell, McClanahan scored a school-record
51 points on 21-of-27 shooting from the floor and 9-of-14 shooting
from the free throw line to go along with 14 rebounds (6-8) and
seven assists. He followed that performance with a 25-point, six-rebound
(3-3), two-assist game against MacMurray, shooting 7-of-14 from
the floor and 11-of-15 from the line.
Staley, a junior guard, averaged 12.7 points, 7.3
rebounds and 2.3 steals in three games during the week. She shot
70.6 percent from the floor (12-of-17) including 62.5 percent from
behind the three-point arc (5-of-8), and 81.8 percent from the free
throw line (9-of-11) in victories over Martin Luther (82-49) and
Graceland (91-49), and a loss to Mayville State (80-70). She scored
eight points, had six rebounds (1-5), four steals and two assists
in the Martin Luther contest. Staley led the Beavers to a third-place
finish at the Dakota State Tournament, earning All-Tournament Team
honors after posting back-to-back career-high 15-point performances.
In the loss to Mayville State, she shot 4-of-7 from the floor, 3-of-5
from behind the arc and 4-of-4 from the free throw line to go along
with nine rebounds (1-8), two assists and two steals. Staley shot
6-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the free throw line, adding
7 rebounds (2-5) and a steal in the victory over Graceland.
