CENTRAL’S DRIFTMIER AND BUENA VISTA’S KAPLER NAMED IIAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Central College basketball player Clint Driftmier (Clarinda, Iowa/Clarinda) and Buena Vista University basketball player Kristina Kapler (Cresco, Iowa/Crestwood) were named IIAC Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 19.

Driftmier, a sophomore center, scored 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds in 19 minutes against MacMurray. He connected on 12-of-14 field goals (85.7 percent) and 3-of-5 free throws (60.0 percent) in Central’s 119-92 victory. Driftmier added two blocks, an assist and a steal in the contest.

Kapler, a senior center, scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds in 34 minutes against Whittier. She connected on 11-of-13 field goals (84.6 percent) and all four free throws in Buena Vista’s 78-59 victory in the opening round of the Tiger Poet Classic at Occidental College. Kapler also had two assists in the contest.
