March 12, 2002 54 NAMED TO IOWA CONFERENCE ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM MOUNT
VERNON, IA . . . The
Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its
All-Academic Team for the winter 2001-02 season.
Fifty-four student-athletes from five winter sports met the
requirements for recognition. To
be eligible for All-Academic Team honors, a student-athlete must
participate at the varsity level, be a junior or senior in academic
standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0
scale). “The
institutions in the Iowa Conference take tremendous pride in the
overall development of young men and women, this includes the
classroom as well as athletic competition,” IIAC Commissioner John
Cochrane said. “The
Iowa Conference commends these individuals for their achievements in
and out of the classroom and wishes them all the best in their
future endeavors.” The
2001-02 winter All-Academic Team is comprised of 27 seniors and 27
juniors. Luther College
has a Conference-high 14 student-athletes on the Team followed by
Buena Vista University (9 student-athletes), Cornell (6
student-athletes) and Loras (6 student-athletes).
As far as a breakdown of the All-Academic Team by sport, 22
women’s basketball players received All-Academic recognition
followed by men’s basketball (12), women’s swimming (9),
wrestling (6) and men’s swimming (5). Five
members of the 2001-02 Winter All-Academic Team earned similar
honors during the fall season – Buena Vista’s Allison
Schultz (tennis/ basketball), Central College’s Terri
Paustian (soccer/basketball), Cornell’s Eric
Sudol (football/basketball), Luther’s Rachel
Horstmann (tennis/ swimming) and Upper Iowa’s Lois Riordan (tennis/basketball). Click here for complete All-Academic Team. -30- |
