SEVEN IIAC TEAMS TO PARTICIPATE IN NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

MOUNT VERNON, IA . . .  Seven Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) teams have been selected to participate in five NCAA Championships as the fields for softball, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s and women's golf were announced during the week.

Softball:  Three schools from the Iowa Conference were selected among the 43-team field for softball.  Conference champion Central College, last year’s national runner-up, is the top seeded team in the region and will host the Regional Tournament.  Conference runner-up Coe College is the region’s third-seeded team and Wartburg College is the fourth seed as the IIAC earned two of three national at-large bids.

Wartburg plays #5 Marian (WI) at 10:00 am on Friday at Central College.  That game is followed at noon by Coe and # 2 St. Thomas (MN).  Central plays the Wartburg/Marian winner at 2:00 pm.

Men’s Tennis:  Two-time Iowa Conference Champion, Coe College was selected to the 27-team field of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship.  Coe is seeded sixth in the Central Region and will take on the fourth-seeded Kenyon College on Saturday, May 11, at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN.

Women’s Tennis:  The Luther College women’s tennis team was selected to the 26-team field of the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship.  They will play the University of St. Thomas on Saturday, May 11 at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN.

Men’s Golf:  For the 23rd time, Central College has received a berth in the NCAA Men’s Golf Tournament.  Twenty-three teams and five individuals will compete at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, NE on May 13-16 for the NCAA title.

Women’s Golf:  Two-time Iowa Conference Champion, Buena Vista University was among 10 teams selected to participate in the NCAA Women's Golf Championship at The Orchards Golf Club on the campus of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA.  The Championship will take place May 14-17.
