May 23, 2002 122 NAMED TO IOWA CONFERENCE ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM MOUNT
VERNON, IA . . . The
Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that
122 student-athletes have been named to the Conference’s
All-Academic Team for the spring season.
To be eligible for All-Academic Team honors, a
student-athlete must participate at the varsity level, be a junior
or senior in academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade
point average (on a 4.0 scale).
During the 2001-02 academic year, 338 student-athletes were
named to the IIAC All-Academic Team. “To
have this number of student-athletes honored for their high academic
accomplishments speaks very highly for their dedication and
commitment to the Conference’s philosophy which is the overall
development of young women and men,” IIAC Commissioner John
Cochrane said. “The
Iowa Conference commends these individuals for their achievements in
and out of the classroom and wishes them all the best in future
endeavors.” The
2002 spring All-Academic Team is comprised of 66 juniors and 56
seniors. Luther College
has a conference-high 28 student-athletes on the Team followed by
Loras College (20 student-athletes) and Wartburg College (19
student-athletes). The
Team is comprised of 43 women’s track and field performers, 23
baseball players, 21 softball players and men’s track and field
performers, eight men’s tennis players and six men’s golf
players. Thirty-six
members (29.3 percent) of the 2002 spring All-Academic Team earned
similar honors in either the fall or winter season.
Thirteen of Luther’s 28 student-athletes are repeat
winners. Loras has
seven repeat winners followed Wartburg with five. Click
