EIGHT IOWA CONFERENCE STUDENT- ATHLETES EARN ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT RECOGNITION FOR TRACK & FIELD/CROSS COUNTRY

MOUNT VERNON, IA . . .  Eight Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) track and field/cross country performers were named to the Verizon Academic All-District VII Track & Field/Cross Country Team as selected by CoSIDA.  Two men and one woman earned First Team recognition and three men and two women earned Second Team recognition.

Wartburg College senior Brianne Schoonover (Fredericksburg, IA), the IIAC Women’s Track and Field MVP, Coe College junior Seth Thorson (Forest City, IA) and Loras College sophomore Marcus Murphy (Ankeny, IA), the two-time IIAC Men’s Cross Country MVP each earned First Team honors and are placed on the national ballot Verizon Academic All-America® Ballot.  The Men’s Verizon Academic All-America® Track & Field/Cross Country team will be announced on Tuesday, June 18.  The Women’s Verizon Academic All-America® Track & Field/Cross Country team will be announced on Thursday, June 20

Earning Second Team recognition, were Loras College senior Sara Nauman (Dubuque, IA), Cornell College seniors Megan Dabroski (Earlville, IA) and Dale Biser (South Hamilton, MA), Central College senior Tony Brownlee (Clarinda, IA) and Wartburg College sophomore Brent Showalter (Wellman, IA).

The eight Track & Field/Cross Country Verizon Academic All-District honorees join 19 other Iowa Conference student-athletes that earned Verizon Academic All-District honors this spring in baseball, softball and at-large.  Of the 27 individuals, 14 are on the Verizon Academic All-America® ballot for their respective sport.
