July 11, 2002 CENTRAL SID LARRY HAPPEL
NAMED TO
COSIDA BOARD OF DIRECTORS MOUNT VERNON, IA . . . Central College Sports Information Director Larry Happel was appointed to a three-year term on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Board of Directors at the organization’s annual workshop held in Rochester, NY last week. Happel will serve on the 17-member board as one of four College Division representatives. The College Division is comprised of NCAA Division II and III schools, NAIA institutions and junior colleges. “I feel very fortunate to receive this appointment and am grateful to those who made it possible, particularly my Iowa Conference colleagues who provided such strong support for my nomination,” Happel said. “Personally it is a tremendous opportunity for me to interact with the leaders of our profession. But it is also an opportunity to provide a voice for the many dedicated, hard-working professionals in Division III and within the Iowa Conference. It is an honor to represent all those who chose to serve in Division III because they believe in the Division III philosophy and are committed to furthering the whole-person development of our student-athletes.” The CoSIDA Board of Directors runs the organization, which seeks “to empower its members in their roles as sports information professionals.” CoSIDA consists of about 1,800 members. The Board facilitates opportunities for professional growth, establishes ethics standards within the profession and interacts with other athletic organizations such as NACDA, the NCAA and national press organizations. It plans the annual workshop and oversees the Verizon Academic All-America® program, the CoSIDA web site and CoSIDA awards programs. The Board formally gathers annually prior to the start of the workshop and meets throughout that week as well as conducting frequent conference calls throughout the year. Happel becomes just the second Iowa Conference Sports Information Director to serve on the CoSIDA Board of Directors. Former Luther College SID Warren Berg served in the early-1960s. -30- |
