FOUR IIAC STUDENT-ATHLETES RECEIVE
NCAA POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

MOUNT VERNON, IA . . . Four Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) student-athletes were among 58 recipients of the NCAA postgraduate scholarships awarded to men and women that participated in spring sports. Central College track performer Anthony Brownlee (Villisca, IA/Villisca HS) and golfer Jonathan Hietbrink (Pella, IA/Pella HS) and Wartburg College baseball player Jude Burger (Dubuque, IA/Walhert HS) and track performer Brianne Schoonover (Fredericksburg, IA/Fredericksburg HS) each received the $5,000 scholarship.

To qualify for an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, a student-athlete must have an overall grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) and must have performed with distinction as a member of the varsity team in the sport in which the student-athlete was nominated. The student-athlete must have behaved, both on and off the field, in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete, the institution and intercollegiate athletics. The student-athlete also must intend to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student.

During the course of the 2002-03 academic year, the NCAA presented 174 total postgraduate scholarships. In addition to Brownlee, Hietbrink, Burger and Schoonover, Luther College cross country runner Johanna Olson (Wadena, MN/Wadena-Deer Creek HS) was among the recipients during the fall season.
