September 17, 2001 SIMPSON’S VON BEHREN AND
WARTBURG’S DOHLMAN MOUNT
VERNON, IA . . . The
Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today
their Male and Female Athletes of the Week for period ending
September 16. Simpson
College football player Jesse
Von Behren (Olin, IA/Olin HS) was selected as the IIAC Male
Athlete of the Week and Wartburg College volleyball player Dia
Dohlman (Eldora, IA/Eldora-New Providence HS) was selected as
the IIAC Female Athlete of the Week. Von
Behren, a junior wide receiver, had 197 yards receiving on seven
catches in Simpson’s 20-17 victory over Buena Vista on Saturday.
Two of his seven receptions went for touchdowns, one for
50-yards and one for six yards.
The 197 receiving yards are the third highest single-game
total in Simpson College history. On the season, Von Behren has 15 receptions for 285 yards and
four touchdowns. He has
averaged 152.5 all-purpose yards per game and 19.0 yards per catch. Dohlman,
a sophomore outside hitter, was named Most Valuable Player of the
College of St. Benedict Tournament which Wartburg won for the second
consecutive season. She
finished the tournament with 43 kills, nine aces and 57 digs in 12
games. In the
tournament’s final match, Dohlman had 13 kills and 21 digs. The
IIAC also announced the Players of the Week for seven of their eight
fall sports. Due to the
postponement of the Les Duke Invitational, the Conference did not
recognize a men’s cross country athlete.
Von Behren and Dohlman were the Players of the Week for their
respective sports. Other

Wartburg College freshman Missy
Buttry (Shenandoah, IA) finished sixth (of 231 runners) in the
Woody Greeno Invitational with a time of 18:50.
She finished 0:39 seconds behind the first place finisher. Golf:
Buena Vista University sophomore Betsy
Hall (Lincoln, NE) finished third in the Wartburg Invitational
with a two rounds of 79. Her two-day score of 158 was five strokes behind the winner
of the 70 golfer field. Men’s
Soccer: Wartburg College freshman
goaltender Ian MacNaughton
(Kingwood, TX) stopped 13 of 14 shots in the Knights’ overtime
victory over Simpson College on September 15. Women’s
Soccer: Simpson College junior
forward Christy Pierick (Des
Moines, IA) finished the week with four goals and one assist on 13
shots in three games. Her
top performance was a three-goal game on September 15, against
Wartburg. Women’s Tennis: Cornell College freshman Sarah Leavenworth (West Des Moines, IA) finished the week with a 6-0 record. She went 2-0 playing at number two singles, and also won her only match at number won singles. At number one doubles (with partner Steph Froehlich) she also posted three wins.
