CORNELL’S KNAKE AND BUENA VISTA’S ZORN NAMED IIAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
SIX OTHERS RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR ATHLETIC ACHIEVMENTS

MOUNT VERNON, IA . . .  The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its Male and Female Athletes of the week for the period ending Sunday, October 7.  Cornell College football player Chet Knake (Bellevue, IA/Bellevue HS) was selected as the IIAC Male Athlete of the Week and Buena Vista golfer Debbie Zorn (Lincoln, NE/East HS) was selected as the IIAC Female Athlete of the Week.

Zorn won the Iowa Conference Golf Championship by six strokes with a two-day score of 159.  She shot an 84 on Friday and followed that with a 75 on Saturday.  The senior was also named the Conference Most Valuable Player for the third time in her collegiate career having earned similar honors as a junior (2000) and co-MVP honors as a sophomore (1999).  Zorn’s performance also led the Beavers to their second consecutive IIAC Golf Championship.

Knake, a junior linebacker, recorded 15 tackles (six solo) in the Rams’ 28-7 victory over Luther.  In addition, he had two tackles for losses, 1.5 sacks and recovered two fumbles, one of which he returned for a touchdown (11 yards).  Knake also plays tight end in Cornell’s JUMBO package and had a seven-yard touchdown reception.

Also announced on Monday were the IIAC Players of the Week for each of the Conference’s eight fall sports.  Zorn and Knake earned the weekly honor for golf and football respectively, while the following student-athletes were honored in the other sports:
