October 22, 2001 LORAS’ MURPHY AND LUTHER’S SHINBORI NAMED IIAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK MOUNT
VERNON, IA . . . The
Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its
Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday,
October 21, 2001. Loras
College cross country runner Marcus
Murphy (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny HS) was selected as the IIAC Male
Athlete of the Week and Luther College soccer player Jen
Shinbori (Bettendorf, IA/Pleasant Valley HS) was selected as the
IIAC Female Athlete of the Week. Shinbori,
a senior forward, finished the week with 19 points (9-1) in three
games. She became only
the eighth women in NCAA Division III history to score 100 career
goals, a feat she reached with her three-goal game against Central
on Saturday. In
addition to her milestone game, Shinbori scored four goals against
Mount Mercy on Wednesday and recorded five points (2-1) against
Illinois Wesleyan on Sunday. Murphy,
a sophomore, won the Dr. Robert Tucker Invitational sponsored by
Loras in a time of 25:30. His time, 34 seconds ahead of the second place finisher, was
just two seconds shy of the course record despite the poor weather
conditions that the race was run under.

the week ending September 23 and has been selected the IIAC Cross
Country Runner of the Week five times. Also
announced on Monday were the IIAC Players of the Week for the
Conference’s six sports contested during the past week.
Shinbori and Murphy earned the honors for women’s soccer
and men’s cross country respectively, while the following
student-athletes were honored in other sports: Women’s

Wartburg College sophomore running back Brad
Hodapp (Solon, IA/Solon HS) rushed for a career-high 155 yards
on 27 carries and two touchdowns in the Knights victory over
previously unbeaten Central. He
ran for 99 yards on 15 carries in the second half. Men’s
Soccer: Simpson College junior
midfielder Randy Reichardt
(Des Moines, IA/Dowling HS) had two two-goal games during the week
as the Storm’s men’s soccer team sealed up the second seed in
the upcoming IIAC Soccer Tournament.
He scored two goals in victories over Cornell and Dubuque. Volleyball: Simpson College senior outside hitter Casey Spree (Parkersburg, IA/Aplington-Parkersburg HS) finished the week with 71 kills, 221 total attacks and 134 digs in 21 games.
