162 STUDENT-ATHLETES RECOGNIZED
FOR THEIR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

MOUNT VERNON, IA . . .  The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its All-Academic Team for the Fall 2001 season.  One hundred sixty-two student-athletes from the Conference’s eight fall sports met the set requirements for recognition.  To be eligible for All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete must participate at the varsity level, be a junior or senior in academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).

“The institutions in the Iowa Conference take tremendous pride in the overall development of young men and women, this includes the classroom as well as athletic competition,” IIAC Commissioner John Cochrane said.  “To have this many student-athletes honored for their high academic accomplishments speaks very highly of their dedication and commitment to this philosophy.  The Iowa Conference commends these individuals for their achievements in and out of the classroom and wishes them all the best in their future endeavors.”

The 2001 Fall All-Academic Team is comprised of 82 seniors and 80 juniors.  Luther College has a Conference-high 33 student-athletes on the Team followed by Wartburg College (23 student-athletes), Buena Vista University (19 student-athletes), Central College (18 student-athletes) and Loras College (18 student-athletes).
