November 26, 2001 CENTRAL’S PARROTT AND COE’S STANEK MOUNT
VERNON, IA . . . The
Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today its
Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday,
November 25, 2001. Central
College basketball player Molly
Parrott (Council Bluffs, IA/Lewis Central HS) was selected IIAC
Female Athlete of the Week and Coe College basketball player Josh
Stanek (Tripoli, IA/Tripoli HS) was selected IIAC Male Athlete
of the Week. Parrott,
a senior guard, averaged 24.0 points, 6.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds
per game in two contests. She shot 18-33 from the floor (.545) and connected on three
of four three-pointers (.750).
Parrott scored 28 points and had five assists in a 73-58
victory over Concordia (WI) College and scored 20 points with seven
assists in an 84-58 win over Beloit (WI) College.
With her 48 points in two games, Parrott moved into sixth
place on Central’s all-time career scoring list with 1,187 points. Stanek,
a senior guard, averaged 23.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals
per game in two contests. He shot 12-29 from the floor (.414), including 6-12 from
three point land (.500), and 16-17 from the free throw line (.941).
Stanek scored a career-high 31 points, including eight in the
final minute of play, to preserve Coe’s 83-74 victory over 23rd
ranked Augustana (IL) College on Saturday.
In that contest, he shot 8-16 from the floor and 11-12 from
the line in addition to grabbing four rebounds and four steals. -30- |
