Feb. 26

Jeff Bissen, Buena Vista Univ., Earling, Iowa/Harlan
Bissen, a sophomore guard, led #3-seed Buena Vista to its fifth straight Iowa Conference Tournament title, becoming the lowest seed to ever win the IIAC basketball Tournament. He averaged 14.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.3 assists in three Tournament games. He shot 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from the floor, including 60.0 percent (3-of-5) from behind the 3-point arc, and 76.5 percent (13-of-17) from the free throw line in victories over Luther (73-71), Wartburg (64-62) and Coe (69-66). He scored a career-high 20 points (on 8-of-10 shooting), had three rebounds, two assists and two steals in the opening round win over Luther. In the semifinals against Conference co-Champion Wartburg, he scored 17 points (on 4-of-6 shooting), had four rebounds and three steals. He scored seven points (on 2-of-6 shooting), had eight rebounds, three steals and two assists in the Championship game against top-seeded Coe.

Feb. 19

Andy Rump, Luther College, Fort Madison, Iowa/Aquinas
Rump, a senior guard, averaged 21.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in two games during the week. He shot 46.4 percent (13-of-28) from the floor, including 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from behind the 3-point arc, and 90.0 percent from the free throw line (9-of-10) in a loss to Conference co-Champion Coe (70-66) and an overtime victory over Loras (84-80). Rump scored 20 points (on 7-of-13 shooting), had a rebound, an assist and a steal in a losing effort to Coe. Against Loras, he scored 23 points (on 6-of-15 shooting) and had two rebounds.

Feb. 12

Tyler Daugherty, Univ. of Dubuque, Bellevue, Iowa/Bellevue
Daugherty, a sophomore guard, averaged 24.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals in two games during the week. He shot 48.4 percent (15-of-31) from the floor, including 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from behind the 3-point arc, and 82.4 percent (14-of-17) from the free throw line in victories over Central (83-72) and Cornell (95-85 in overtime). He scored 26 points (on 10-of-19 shooting), had eight rebounds, five assists and four steals against Central. In the overtime win against Cornell, Daugherty scored 23 points (on 5-of-12 shooting), had eight rebounds and five assists.

Feb. 5

Kyle Kuenstling, Coe College, Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton
Kuenstling, a sophomore forward, averaged 23.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in two games during the week. He shot 64.0 percent (16-of-25) from the floor and 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from the free throw line in victories over Cornell (83-65) and #11-Wartburg (75-65). He scored 32 points (on 11-of-15 shooting) and had seven rebounds against Cornell, giving him 70 points in two games this season against the Rams. Kuenstling helped Coe end an eight-game losing streak to Wartburg with a 14-point, six-rebound, two-assist performance.

Jan. 29

Nate Schmidt, Wartburg College, Cascade, Iowa/Cascade
Schmidt, a senior center, averaged 11.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in three games during the week. He shot 45.2 percent (14-of-31) from the floor and 55.6 percent (5-of-9) from the free throw line in victories over Central (69-51), Dubuque (86-66) and Simpson (76-67). He recorded his second double-double of the season with a 15-point, 13-rebound performance against Central, shooting 54.5 percent (6-of-11 shooting) from the floor, and adding two assists, two blocks and two steals. Against Dubuque, he scored 11 points (on 4-of-11 shooting), had eight rebounds, an assist and a block. He finished the week with nine points (on 4-of-9 shooting), 10 rebounds and four blocks against Simpson.

Jan. 22

Mike Kilburg, Coe College, Bellevue, Iowa/Marquette
Kilburg, a junior center, averaged 27.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game during the week. He shot 66.7 percent (26-of-39) from the floor in a victory over Cornell (89-84) and a loss to Wartburg (73-71). He scored 23 points (on 11-of-17 shooting), had 10 rebounds and an assist against Cornell. In a losing effort, he scored 32 points (on 15-of-22 shooting), had eight rebounds and four assists.

Jason Steege, Wartburg College, Fredericksburg, Iowa/Fredericksburg
Steege, a senior guard, averaged 20.0 points, 3.3 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals in three games during the week. He shot 50.0 percent (16-of-32) from the floor, including 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from behind the 3-point arc, and 78.3 percent from the free throw line (18-of-23) in victories over Central (96-81), Simpson (68-51) and Dubuque (75-65). Steege scored 20 points (on 6-of-13 shooting), grabbed four rebounds, had four assists and two steals against Central. He scored 17 points (on 4-of-10 shooting), had four assists, two steals and a rebound against Simpson. He finished the week with 23 points (on 6-of-9 shooting), four rebounds and two assists against Dubuque.

Jan. 8

Clint Driftmier, Central College, Clarinda, Iowa/South Page
Driftmier, a junior center, averaged 23.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 assists in two games during the week. He shot 67.9 percent (19-of-28) from the field and 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the free throw line in victories over Dubuque (85-71) and Simpson (87-85) as Central extended its winning streak to its longest in 11 years (six straight). Driftmier scored 28 points (on 12-of-16 shooting), had 13 rebounds (4-9), three blocks, two assists and a steal against Dubuque. He scored 18 points (on 7-of-12 shooting), had nine rebounds (1-8), two blocks and an assist against Simpson. (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)

Jan. 1

Clint Driftmier, Central College, Clarinda, Iowa/South Page
Driftmier, a junior center, scored 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds (2-9) in Central’s 77-65 victory over Waldorf. He also had three assists, three blocks and three steals as the Dutch extended their win streak to four-straight, the program’s longest win streak since February 1995.

Dec. 25

Kyle Kuenstling, Coe College, Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton
Kuenstling, a sophomore forward, averaged 18.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in three games. He shot 67.7 percent (21-of-31) from the floor, including 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from behind the 3-point arc, and was perfect on eight free throw attempts in victories over Chicago (67-50), Benedictine (75-68) and Clarke (78-73). Kuenstling scored 19 points (on 9-of-13 shooting), grabbed seven rebounds (1-6), had five assists and a block against Chicago. In the Benedictine contest, he scored 15 points (on 4-of-7 shooting), grabbed seven rebounds (1-6), had four assists and a steal. He concluded the week with a season-high 20 points (on 8-of 11 shooting) against Clarke, again grabbing seven rebounds (1-6) to go along with three assists and two blocks.

Dec. 11

Jake Lappe, Luther College, Fort Madison, Iowa/Aquinas
Lappe, a senior forward, averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in two games during the week. He shot 77.3 percent (17-of-22) from the floor and 60 percent (6-of-10) from the free throw line in an 86-72 victory over Hamline and a 69-64 victory over Northwestern (Minn.). Lappe scored a game-high 23 points (on 9-of-12 shooting) and had five rebounds (2-3) against Hamline. In the Northwestern contest, he scored 18 points (on 8-of-10 shooting), had five rebounds (1-4) and three assists.

Ryan Hittenmiller, Simpson College, Dyersville, Iowa/Beckman
Hittenmiller, a junior forward, averaged 22.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals in two games during the week. He shot 48.1 percent (13-of-27) from the floor, including 50.0 percent (7-of-14) from behind the 3-point arc, and 75.0 percent (12-of-16) from the free throw line in an 89-83 overtime victory over Loras and an 83-74 loss to Augustana (Ill.). Hittenmiller scored 23 points (on 6-of-13 shooting), had three rebounds (1-2), three assists, a steal and a block against Loras. In a losing effort against Augustana, he scored 22 points (on 7-of-14 shooting), had two rebounds (0-2), three steals and one assist.
Nov. 27
Tyler Daugherty, University of Dubuque, Bellevue, Iowa/Bellevue
Daugherty, a sophomore guard, averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in two Dubuque victories at the Mississippi River Challenge including an 86-84 win over 20th-ranked Wisconsin-Platteville. In the Spartans’ first win over Platteville since 1984, Daugherty scored 25 points on 4-of-12 shooting and 15-of-16 from the free throw line. He also had four rebounds (1-3), three assists, a block and a steal. In a 74-69 victory over Clarke, he scored 18 points (5-of-11 from the floor, 5-of-7 from the line), had five rebounds (0-5), six assists, a block and a steal.

Nov. 20

Jason Soppe, Simpson College, Dyersville, Iowa/Beckman
Soppe, a junior center, was named to the Wisconsin-Platteville All-Tournament Team after averaging 18.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game, while shooting 59.3 percent from the floor (16-for-27) in two contests. In a 73-43 loss to host Platteville, he scored nine points on 4-for-9 shooting, had six rebounds (1-5), two steals and an assist. Soppe followed that performance with a career-high 27 points (12-for-18, .667) in a 96-84 victory over Washington (Mo.). He also registered 13 rebounds (6-7), two assists, a steal and a blocked shot.
