Nov. 15, 2009

Offense: Colton Hansen, University of Dubuque, Olin, Iowa/Olin Consolidated
Hansen, a senior quarterback, threw for 427 yards and four touchdowns in a 31-21 win at Buena Vista. The win gave the Spartans and first-year head coach Stan Zweifel a fourth-place IIAC finish. He also helped wide receiver Michael Zweifel break single-season IIAC records for receptions (88) and receiving yards (1,236).
Defense: Kyle McGivney, Luther College, Apple River, Ill./Warren
McGivney, a junior linebacker, tallied 14 tackles (8 solo), blocked two punts and broke up the final pass of the game to secure Luther’s 20-17 victory over Loras. His second blocked punt was scooped up by teammate Bruce Clark and returned 12 yards for a touchdown. (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)
Special Teams: Seth Streeter, Luther College, Prairie City, Iowa/Prairie City-Monroe
Streeter, a freshman placekicker, kicked the game-winning field goal with five seconds remaining to give Luther a 20-17 victory over Loras. He was 2-of-3 on field goals for the game. He also averaged 48.8 yards on four kickoffs.

Nov. 8, 2009

Offense: Nate Snead, Central College, Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk
Snead, a sophomore quarterback, completed 18 of 21 passes for 202 yards and four touchdowns and carried the ball 18 times for 82 yards and another score in Central’s 41-33 victory at Wartburg. The 85.7 percent completion percentage for the game was the second-highest in school history. Snead also set single-game career highs for pass completions, attempts, yards, and touchdowns as the Dutch secured their 30th Iowa Conference football title. (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)
Defense: Calvin Thomas, Coe College, Westchester, Ill./St. Joseph’s
Thomas, a senior linebacker, tallied a game-high 13 tackles (11 solo) in the Kohawks’ 31-20 win at Buena Vista. His 11 solo tackles rank as the fifth highest single-game total in school history.
Special Teams: Brian King, Cornell College, West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley
King, a senior punter/linebacker, averaged 41.6 yards on seven punts, including a career long of 66 yards and two inside the Loras 20-yard line in Cornell’s 23-16 victory over the Duhawks. The Rams snapped a 34-game Iowa Conference losing streak with the victory. He also recorded seven tackles and returned an interception 23 yards to set up a second-quarter touchdown defensively

Nov. 1, 2009

Offense: Brad Boyle, Coe College, New Sharon, Iowa/North Mahaska
Boyle, a sophomore quarterback, threw for over 300 yards for the third time this season, leading the Kohawks to a 38-13 victory at Loras. He completed 25 of 38 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed 13 times for 17 yards and a score.
Defense: Kyle McGivney, Luther College, Apple River, Ill./Warren
McGivney, a junior linebacker, was credited with 23 tackles (11 solo), plus one forced fumble in a 24-9 loss to Wartburg. His 23 tackles were a single-game career high.
Special Teams: Kurtis Brondyke, Central College, Clinton, Iowa/Clinton
Brondyke, a junior punter/kickoff specialist, hit a career-long 78 yard punt in a 17-0 win over Buena Vista. He averaged 49.4 yards per punt, increasing his school career record for punts inside the opponent’s 20-yard line to 53. He also average 57.8 yards per kickoff and assisted on a tackle.

Oct. 25, 2009

Offense: Brad Boyle, Coe College, New Sharon, Iowa/North Mahaska
Boyle, a sophomore quarterback, was 14-of-22 for 306 yards and two touchdowns in Coe’s 48-14 win over Simpson. He also rushed five times for 51 yards. All of his statistics came in the first half as he did not see action during the second half.
Defense: Kyle McGivney, Luther College, Apple River, Ill./Warren
McGivney, a junior linebacker, was credited with a game-high 16 tackles (six solo) in a 15-9 win over Buena Vista. He intercepted a Buena Vista pass in the end zone on the final play of the game and also broke up a potential touchdown pass in the end zone early in the first quarter.
Special Teams: John Wolfe, Simpson College, Council Bluffs, Iowa/Abraham Lincoln
Wolfe, a senior strong safety/kick returner, returned five kicks for 157 yards, an average of 31.4 yards per return with a long of 46 yards. He currently ranks third in the league in kickoff returns at 24.6 yards per return. He also had eight tackles (three solo) defensively.

Oct. 18, 2009

Offense: Michael Zweifel, University of Dubuque, Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater
Zweifel, a junior wide receiver, broke Iowa Conference single-game records for receptions and receiving yards with a 20-catch, 330-yard, 3-touchdown performance in a 36-33 Dubuque win at Simpson. He broke records held by Dubuque’s Matt Plummer (18 receptions vs. Buena Vista, Oct. 12, 1996) and Simpson’s Jim Henderson (276 yards vs. Wartburg, Nov. 4, 1967). His longest catch of the day was a 46-yard touchdown strike with 16 seconds left in the first half to give the Spartans a 16-13 halftime edge. His 330 yards is the most in Division III this season, surpassing the 295 receiving yards put up by Randolph-Macon’s Earl Peoples against Washington & Lee Oct. 3. (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)
Defense: Tate Harrison, Coe College, Nevada, Iowa/Nevada
Harrison, a senior linebacker, moved into first place on Coe’s all-time tackles list with seven stops (six solo) and a tackle for loss in a 35-21 win at Wartburg. He now has 318 career tackles. He also scored his first career points on a two-point conversion reception.
Special teams: Zach Kaufman, Buena Vista University, Harlan, Iowa/Harlan Community
Kaufman, a senior placekicker, was a perfect 3-of-3 on PATs and also connected on a career-long 37-yard field goal with five seconds left in the first half of a 24-17 homecoming win over Cornell. Kaufman, who is now 3-of-3 on field goal attempts this season, also averaged 56.4 yards on five kickoffs.

Oct. 11, 2009

Offense: Michael Black, Buena Vista University, Tipton, Iowa/Tipton
Black, a sophomore running back, rushed 25 times for a career-high 91 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, which sealed the win for BVU over Wartburg. He had only 22 carries and 59 years for the year entering the game.
Defense: Eric Meyer, Loras College, Bernard, Iowa/Dubuque Hempstead
Meyer, a sophomore linebacker, contributed in nearly every way possible in Loras’ 43-14 win at Dubuque. He led the Duhawks with 10.5 tackles (9 solo), forced two fumbles, recovering one, broke up a deep pass in coverage, blocked a punt, and returned a punt for five yards. He leads Loras in tackles this season. (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)
Special Teams: Taylor Buhmeyer, Loras College, Burlington, Iowa/Burlington
Buhmeyer, a senior placekicker, was 3-of-3 on field goals with a long of 39 yards, and averaged 54 yards per kickoff, including one touchback, in the Duhawks’ 43-14 win at Dubuque. He also converted four of five PATs.

Oct. 4, 2009

Offense: Chris Reynolds, Luther College, West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley
Reynolds, a sophomore quarterback, accounted for 252 of Luther’s 254 total yards leading the Norse to a 23-13 homecoming victory over Simpson. Reynolds rushed for a career-high 155 yards and three touchdowns and also had a 46-yard punt in the third quarter that pinned Simpson at its own 4-yard line. (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)
Defense: Brian Bode, Buena Vista University, Schaller, Iowa/Schaller-Crestland
Bode, a junior linebacker, led the Beaver defense in a 27-13 win over Loras, setting career-highs in total tackles (14), tackles-for-loss (4), and sacks (3). As a team, the Beavers allowed a season-low 226 yards of total offense.
Special Teams: Jake Viggers, Central College, Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk
Viggers, a junior placekicker, was a perfect 2-of-2 on field goals and 6-of-6 on extra points in a 55-0 Central rout of Cornell. He is 6-of-7 on field goal attempts this season, including a 42-yarder in the second quarter against the Rams that was one yard short of a career long.

Sept. 27, 2009

Offense: Colton Hansen, University of Dubuque, Olin, Iowa/Olin Consolidated
Hansen, a senior quarterback, passed for 366 yards and five touchdowns in a 42-19 win at Cornell.  He completed 18 of 33 passes, connecting on scoring strikes of 4 and 5 yards to Michael Zweifel and 60, 73, and 74 to Demacus Fleming. (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)
Defense: Aaron Steenhoek, Central College, Pella, Iowa/Pella
Steenhoek, a junior defensive lineman, had 2.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss, and six total tackles in helping the Dutch defense limit Coe to 10 yards rushing in a 24-6 victory. Central had four sacks overall.
Special Teams: Kevin Morgan, Simpson College, Lee’s Summit, Mo./North
Morgan, a freshman placekicker, connected on a 29-yard field goal as time expired to lift Simpson over Buena Vista, 30-28. It was his first field goal attempt of the season, as Morgan primarily serves as a kickoff specialist. In that role, he averaged 41.2 yards on five kickoffs.

Sept. 20, 2009

Offense: David Zachary, Central College, Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic
Zachary, a senior running back, set career single-game highs with 161 rushing yards and four touchdowns in Central’s 41-27 win at Dubuque. He opened the scoring with a career-long 50-yard touchdown run then added scores of 1, 10, and 36 yards in the second half as the Dutch pulled away. Zachary also had a 6-yard reception. Defense: Andrew Creary, Wartburg College, Knoxville, Iowa/Knoxville
Creary, a senior defensive back, blocked one of two field goal attempts, turned in an interception in the fourth quarter that led to the Knights’ final touchdown and was second-high in tackles (10) while also breaking up two passes in Wartburg’s 30-7 win at Cornell. The Knights limited Cornell to 230 yards of total offense and turned the Rams away with no points on three of four drives inside the Wartburg red zone.

Special Teams: Elliot Rausa, Coe College, Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus Catholic
Rausa, a junior kicker, was 1-for-2 on field goals and 2-for-2 on PATs in Coe’s 19-6 over Luther. His 20-yard field goal in the fourth quarter gave him 24 for his career, moving him past Rims Roof for second most in school history. He also had four kickoffs for 169 yards.

Sept. 13, 2009

Offense: Nate Snead, Central College, Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk
Snead, a sophomore quarterback, scored all three touchdowns, including the game-winner on fourth down with 1:05 left in Central’s 22-21 upset of No. 7 Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He was 7-of-15 through the air for 96 yards and added 90 yards on 23 carries.

Defense: Alan Bladt, Buena Vista University, Shelby, Iowa/AHST
Bladt, a sophomore strong safety, turned in a career-high 16 tackles (11 solo) and forced a fumble late in the fourth quarter of Buena Vista’s 16-14 win over Peru State that led to the game-winning field goal. He also registered a tackle-for-loss and a pass break-up.

Special Teams: Don Bladt, Cornell College, Shelby, Iowa/AHST
Bladt, a senior defensive back/kick returner, had four punt returns for 35 yards and five kickoff returns for 126 yards, including a long of 49 yards, in Cornell’s 27-21 loss at Carleton. He also kicked off four times for a 52-yard average. He also intercepted his fourth pass of the year, returning it 11 yards to finish the game with 172 all-purpose yards.

Sept. 6, 2009

Offense: Brad Boyle, Coe College, New Sharon, Iowa/North Mahaska
Boyle, a sophomore quarterback, was 25-for-32 for 207 yards and a touchdown in Coe’s 9-7 season-opening win over Augustana (Ill.). The 25 completions rank fifth-most in school history for a single game. He also tallied a game-high 16 carries for 16 yards.

Defense: Don Bladt, Cornell College, Shelby, Iowa/AHST
Bladt, a senior defensive back, intercepted three passes in leading the Rams to a 28-21 season-opening victory at Grinnell, snapping Cornell’s 18-game losing streak. Bladt had a 60-yard touchdown and picked off another pass in the end zone for a touchback in the fourth quarter. His first pick of the day, which he returned 30 yards, set up Cornell’s first touchdown in the second quarter. Bladt also tied for the team lead with seven tackles in addition to handling regular kickoff duties.

Special Teams: Elliot Rausa, Coe College, Waterloo, Iowa/Columbus Catholic
Rausa, a junior kicker, was 1-for-2 on field goal attempts, making a 26-yarder with 11:52 to play in the game to provide what ended up being the winning points. He also assisted on a tackle.
