Eric Bertelsen, Buena Vista University, Polk City, Iowa/North Polk
Bertelsen, a senior, was named Men’s Most Valuable Performer at the 2008 Iowa Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He was a part of three winning and two runner-up performances at the Championships for the Beavers. Bertelsen won the long jump (7.21m; 23-8) and the 200 (21.67) and ran the second leg on BVU’s winning 4x100 relay (41.55), all of which posted NCAA provisional-qualifying marks. Bertelsen also took second in the 100 (11.01) and ran the second leg on the Beavers’ runner-up 4x400 relay team (3:20.27). (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)

May 4
James Klobucar, Cornell College, Janesville, Wis./Craig
Klobucar, a senior, won three events (100, 400, and 110 hurdles) and compiled an NCAA-provisional-qualifying total of 6,227 points in taking the decathlon title at the Iowa Conference Multi-Events Championship May 2-3 in Waverly. Klobucar, who placed second in the event last year, outdistanced his closest competitor by 303 points.
April 27
Guy Dierikx, Central College, Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale
Dierikx, a senior, ran on two top-6 placing relays in the College Division at the Drake Relays. He ran on the sprint medley relay, which placed third with a time of 3:25.15, and the 4x400 relay, which took sixth in an NCAA provisional time of 3:16.54.
April 20
Shawn Olorundami, Buena Vista University, Sioux City, Iowa/West
Olorundami, a senior, placed second and tied a school record in the 110 hurdles with his 14.58 clocking at the Sioux City Relays. He also ran the first leg on the winning 4x200 relay which set a new school record with a time of 1:27.30 and ran the second leg on the runner-up 4x400 relay (3:20.60).
April 13
Jeanriles Metezier, Univ. of Dubuque, Pompano Beach, Fla./Coconut Creek
Metezier, a junior, placed in the top-four in three events at the Nike Impact Sports/UW-Platteville Invitational. He was part of the winning 4x100 relay (42.18), was runner-up in the 100 (11.14), and was a member of the fourth-place 4x400 meter relay (3:27.49), in which he ran a 50.70 split.
April 6
Eric Bertelsen, Buena Vista University, Polk City, Iowa/North Polk
Bertelsen, a junior, was part of three NCAA provisional marks for the Beavers during the Central Invitational April 5. He won the 100-meter dash in a provisional and school-record time of 10.71, captured the long jump with a NCAA provisional leap of 7.24 meters, and ran the second leg of the winning 4x100 relay, which won the event in a provisional time of 41.84. In addition, he took third in the 200 (21.81). (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)
March 30
Kevin Balster, Wartburg College, Monticello, Iowa/Monticello
Balster, a senior, posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 5,000 at the ninth annual University of Missouri Relays, leading a 1-2 sweep in a multi-divisional field of 65 runners. Balster’s winning time of 14:31.36 was over eight seconds faster than that of the runner-up (14:39.96). His time ranks as one of the fastest in the nation so far this season.
