Posted back-to-back shutouts in the Iowa Conference soccer Tournament, leading the Knights to their second straight Tournament title and second straight NCAA Tournament berth. Extended his shutout streak to 450:56 with a two-save performance in a 3-0 win over Buena Vista in the semifinals and an eight-save performance in a 2-0 win over Loras in the Championship match.
October 31 Kyle Nelson, Luther, So., D
Scored two goals in each of the Norse’s victories during the week, a 4-1 victory over Loras in which he scored the game winning goal and a 3-0 victory over Buena Vista as Luther clinched the second seed in the Conference Tournament.
October 24 Daniel Padilla, Buena Vista, Jr., GK
Went 1-0-1 with a 0.45 goals against average in two games during the week. Led the Beavers to their first-ever victory over Simpson making two saves in the 2-1 win. Also recorded his second shutout of the season in a 0-0 double-overtime tie with Nebraska Wesleyan, making five saves in the match.
October 17 Harrison Kimbobo-Lugujjo, Wartburg, So., F
Scored three goals in two matches during the week as the Knights extended their unbeaten streak to 10 straight. In a 5-2 victory over Luther, scored two second half goals to break open a one-goal game at halftime. Also netted a goal in a 4-0 victory over Cornell.
October 10 Verne Houston, Wartburg, Sr., F
Scored 10 goals and had one assist in three games during the week including four goals in victories over Iowa Wesleyan (9-0) and Upper Iowa (10-0). He recorded the game-winning goal in the Iowa Wesleyan contest and notched an assist against Upper Iowa. Scored two goals on two shots in a Conference victory over Simpson (4-1).
October 3 Kyle Halfpop, Central, Sr., F
Broke his own school record with his 10 points, tied his own school mark with four goals and tied the school record with his 15th goal of the season in 8-0 victory over Coe.
September 26 Kevin Smerko, Loras, So., GK
Surrendered just one goal in two games during the week, making 12 saves (.923 save pct.). The only goal allowed was an own goal. Made seven saves in a 1-0 loss to Wisconsin-Oshkosh and five saves in a double-overtime scoreless tie with unbeaten St. Norbert.
September 19 Andy Quigg, Central, Sr., GK
Recorded a nine-save shutout in the Dutch’s 2-0 victory over Hamline. It was Hamline’s first loss in seven contests this season.
September 12 Eric Henderson, Luther, Sr., F
Scored six goals including the game-winner in both games and was named to The Classic Soccer Tournament All-Tournament Team. Scored twice in the Norse’s 4-3 victory over Elmhurst in the semifinals and then notched four goals in the Championship match, a 7-2 victory over Maryville (Mo.).
September 5 Sean Moran, Loras, Sr., MF
Scored three goals on six shots in two games during the week. In Loras’ 3-0 victory over St. Mary’s (Minn.), he scored the game winning goal. Followed that performance with two goals in a 5-0 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan.
