Apr. 29
Max Busch, Luther College, Duluth, Minn./Marshall
Busch, a freshman, won the Flight A singles title at the Iowa Conference men’s tennis Individual Tournament and led Luther to the Conference team title with a 4-0 week in singles play. In the Team Tournament Championship match, Busch defeated Coe’s Ryan Yao (6-2, 6-3). Seeded #1 at the Individual Tournament, he posted victories over Coe’s Sam Zerbib (6-3, 6-4) and Wartburg’s Mitch Eslick (6-4, 6-1) in the first round and quarterfinals, respectively. After defeating Coe’s Joey Lankelma (6-4, 7-6(4)) in the semifinals, Busch defeated #2-seed Yao for the third time this year (6-2, 6-3) to win the individual title.

Ryan Yao, Coe College, Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley
Yao, a senior, won both of his singles matches during the week, including a 6-1, 6-4 victory over the eighth-ranked player in the region, Alec Kempster from Kalamazoo College, ranked 18th nationally. He also defeated Calvin’s Ricky Tilton (6-4, 6-3).

Dan Glinert, Loras College, Madison, Wis./Edgewood
Glinert, a freshman, posted a 6-2 record during the week with matching 3-1 marks at #1 singles and #1 doubles to lead Loras to their first three wins of the season. In singles, Glinert defeated St. Ambrose’s Kyle Wood (6-3, 6-1), Knox’s Jared Katchen (6-1, 6-3) and Dominican, Ill.’s Manny Chavez (6-0, 6-1). Glinert teamed with Joe Holguin to post doubles wins over Knox (8-5), Dominican (8-2) and Cornell (8-1). His two defeats during the week came against Elmhurst, in singles to Anthony McPherson (6-3, 7-6) and in doubles to McPherson/Greg Bayer (8-4).

Max Busch, Luther College, Duluth, Minn./Marshall
Busch, a freshman, won a pair of singles matches against regionally ranked opponents. He defeated 15th-ranked Winston Park of Carleton (6-2, 6-4) and 9th-ranked Ryan Yao of Coe (6-7(3), 6-3, 6-0). Busch’s win over Yao led Luther to a 7-2 win over Coe, ending the Kohawks’ 46-match Iowa Conference win streak. In doubles, Busch teamed with Jono Martin to post a 2-2 record at #1 doubles, including victories over UW-LaCrosse (8-3) and Coe (8-5).

Chad Evans, Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy
Evans, a senior, went 4-2 during the week with a pair of wins at #2 singles and #1 doubles. He recorded singles wins over Wartburg’s Tylor Schlader (6-0, 6-0) and Grinnell’s Eli Best (6-3, 6-2). In doubles with Sam Zerbib, Evans registered an 8-2 win over Wartburg’s Mitch Eslick/Tom Koenen and an 8-6 win over Grinnell’s DJ Warden/Nate Fox. Grinnell is ranked #13 in the Central Region. Both of Evans’ losses came at the hands of Carleton – 6-2, 6-2 against Kartheek Koneru and 9-8 to Brendan Cooper/Julian Tokarev.

Thomas Orser, Luther College, Keller, Texas/Keller
Orser, a sophomore, went 6-0 during the week including two wins at #2 singles and four wins at #4 singles. He registered wins at the #2 position against Illinois Wesleyan’s Paul Oehrlein (6-3, 6-2) and Hamline’s Jon Breimhorst (6-2, 6-3). At #4, Orser defeated Florida Tech’s Joel Zahlan (6-2, 6-0), Calvin’s Steve DeMaagd (7-6, 6-2) and Chicago’s Noah Schneider (6-3, 6-4). Chicago is ranked 28th nationally as a team and eighth in the Central Region. Calvin is ranked 11th in Central Region.

Ryan Yao, Coe College, Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley
Yao, a senior, was 2-0 during the week with victories at #1 singles and #3 doubles. He defeated Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Alex Lowe (3-6, 6-3, 6-0) in singles play, and teamed with Greg Janssen to defeat Whitewater’s David Stefanik/Johnny Reed (8-4) in doubles play.
Mar. 11

Ryan Yao, Coe College, Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley
Yao, a junior, went 7-1 during the week including 3-1 at #1 singles and 4-0 at #3 doubles. In singles action, he defeated Division II players Wojciech Bartoski of St. Cloud State (0-6, 6-4, 7-5) and Doug Kim of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (6-2, 6-1). Yao also defeated Salve Regina’s Robbie Norton (6-0, 6-1). His lone loss of the week, a 6-4, 6-2 set-back, was at the hands Adam Sandusky of Division II Grand Valley State. Yao teamed with Greg Janssen to post #3 doubles victories over St. Cloud State (8-5), Grand Valley State (8-4), Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (8-2) and Salve Regina (8-0).

Jared Feddersen, Central College, Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge
Feddersen, a junior, went 4-0 during the week with a pair of wins at #1 singles and #1 doubles against Conference opponents. Feddersen defeated Simpson’s Matt Johnson (6-4, 6-1) and Wartburg’s Mitch Eslick (6-3, 6-3) in singles play. In doubles, he partnered with Luke Boyd to post an 8-5 win over Johnson/Tim Claussen and a 9-8 win over Eslick/Tom Koenen.
Feb. 25

Ryan Yao, Coe College, Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley
Yao, a senior, went 2-2 during the week splitting both singles and doubles matches. Both victories came over UW-Oshkosh, a win at #1 singles over Todd Miller (6-2, 6-4) and at #3 doubles, with Aaron Neiderhiser, over Mike Herroux/Matt Predick (8-6). He lost at #1 singles to the #9-ranked player in the region, Miguel Yunes of #7 Carthage (7-6, 4-6, 6-2), and at #3 doubles to Carthage’s Phil Hammond/J.T. Delk (9-7).

Feb. 18

Ustab Rijal, Luther College, Kathmandu, Nepal/New Summit
Rijal, a freshman, went 4-0 during the week with a pair of wins at #2 singles, a win at #1 doubles and a win at #2 doubles. In singles play, he defeated Augustana (Ill.)’s Rafael Romero (6-0, 6-0) and UW-Eau Claire’s Steve Lantz (6-0, 6-2), and had won 30 straight games at one point dating back to Feb. 10. In doubles-play, Rijal teamed with Brad Nelson to post an 8-3 win over Augustana’s Romero/Tom Goebel at #1 and a 9-8 win over Eau Claire’s Phil Loprinzi/Aaron Nordenskjold at #2.

Feb. 11

Reid Mason, Luther College, Edina, Minn./Edina
Mason, a junior, went 4-0 during the week with a pair of wins at #1 singles and #1 doubles. His singles victories came over Division II Minnesota State-Mankato’s Andrew Stein (6-0, 6-3) and Dubuque’s Jose Garcia (6-0, 6-0). In doubles, Mason teamed with Alex Lewke for an 8-4 win over Stein/Ryan Fredrickson and an 8-2 win over Dubuque’s Ian Book/Oliver DeSilva.

Feb. 4

Chad Evans, Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy
Evans, a senior, went 4-0 during the week with two wins at #1 singles and #1 doubles. He did not lose a game in three of four singles sets, defeating Nebraska Wesleyan’s Zac Kerr (6-0, 7-5) and Augustana (Ill.)’s Dave Gapp (6-0, 6-0). Evans also teamed with Sam Zerbib for doubles victories over Nebraska Wesleyan’s Kerr/Grant Johnson (8-1) and Augustana’s Gapp/Greg Ruth (9-7).
