| February 20 | Dustin Hinschberger, Wartburg, Jr., 141-lbs. | Named Dick Walker Outstanding Wrestler
of the IIAC Wrestling Championship. The top-seed at 141-pounds went
3-0 with two major decisions and a technical fall. He defeated Dubuque’s
Ben Swan, 14-1, in the quarterfinals and Simpson's Dustin Brewer, 10-2,
in the semifinals. Won the championship match over Coe’s Mark Carey
by technical fall, 20-5. |

week by fall. Pinned Morningside’s Nathan Ploen at 4:21, Dubuque’s James
Mundy at 2:12 and Division II Northern State’s Jesse Hockley at 4:20. |
| January 30 | Dan Adams, Luther, Sr., 184-lbs. | Went 4-0 at 184-pounds at the Iowa Conference
Duals with three pins. Pinned Coe’s Marcus Schneider (0:20), Buena Vista’s
Michael Irvin (3:29) and Loras’ Tom Andrews (1:49). Won a decision over
Simpson’s Cody Downing (6-3). |
| January 23 | Blake Gillis, Wartburg, So., Hwt. | Went 6-0 during the week with two falls and two
technical falls. Won by decision over Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Mark
Hayes (7-4) and won by technical fall over Coe’s Ted Drees (16-0) before
posting a 4-0 record at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals. At the National
Duals, defeated Case Western Reserve’s Dawud Wilson by technical fall
(16-0) then pinned The College of New Jersey’s Keith Bjorhus (4:31)
and Luther’s Joe Postuma (5:53). In the Championship dual against top
ranked Augsburg, won by decision over the #4-ranked wrestler, Mark Simmonds
(5-0). |
| January 16 | Adam Reid, Coe, Sr., 174-lbs. | Went 6-0 including two pins and three major decisions.
In a dual against #21-Augustana (Ill.), won by major decision over Nate
Demus (13-2). Then led Coe to a first-place finish at the North Central
(Ill.) Invitational. Pinned Lawrence’s Joe Austin (4:16) and Rose Hulman’s
Mark Tappendorf (2:45). Won by major decision over Milwaukee School
of Engineering’s Joe Fields (13-0) and University of Chicago’s Phil
Kruzel (15-1), and won by decision over Elmhurst’s Toby Boltz (6-1). |
| January 9 | Dustin Hinschberger, Wartburg, Jr., 141-lbs. | Went 4-0 at the Lone Star Duals including
a victory over a Division I wrestler and two victories over Division
II wrestlers. After forfeit victory in a dual against Missouri Baptist,
Hinschberger registered a 10-6 victory over Juan Mora of Division I
Cal State Fullerton. He then posted a 7-3 victory over the sixth-ranked
wrestler in Division II, Wade Bramlitt of Central Oklahoma. Final victory
was an 8-6 decision over Matt True of Division II Nebraska Kearney. |
January 2 | Scott Kauffman, Wartburg, Jr., 184-lbs. | Went 4-0 at the Desert Duals, two victories
over ranked opponents and two pins. He won by decision over Elmhurst’s
Matt Sassolino (7-2) and North Central (Ill.)’s Ryan Aldrich (8-5). Sassolino
is the #1-ranked wrestler at 184-pounds and Aldrich is ranked sixth. Kauffman
pinned McDaniel’s Steve Jennings at 6:04 and, wrestling at 197-pounds,
he pinned Menlo’s Mariano Sanchez at 4:14. |
December 12 | Clint Manny, Simpson, Sr., 149-lbs. | Won the 149-pound title at the MacMurray
Ameri-Host Open posting a 4-0 record with a fall, technical fall and major
decision. |
December 5 | Dustin Hinschberger, Wartburg, Jr., 141-lbs. | Went 6-0 during the week at 141-pounds with
three falls and a major decision. As the third-seed, won the 141-pound
weight class at the University of Northern Iowa Open with three victories
over Division I wrestlers and two victories over Division II wrestlers
including a major decision in the finals over 2003 NCAA Division I national
qualifier Michael Martin of Illinois. |
November 21 | Clint Manny, Simpson, Sr., 149-lbs. | Went 4-2 during the week with a technical fall and
two pins. Both losses came against wrestlers from Division I Oklahoma
State (including #1 ranked wrestler in weight class) while he posted victories
over one Division I wrestler and two Division II wrestlers (including
#4 ranked wrestler in weight class). |
November 14 | Garrett South, Luther, Sr., 165-lbs. | Went 4-0 with two falls at the Wisconsin-Stevens
Point Golden Eagle Open to win the 165-pound weight class with three victories
over Division I wrestlers. In the first round, he won a 5-0 decision over
Northern Illinois’ Tony Carour. He pinned Wisconsin’s Zach Menne at 1:43
of the quarterfinals, won a major decision over Wisconsin-Parkside’s AJ
Morgan (11-0) in the semifinals. In the Championship match, pinned Northern
Illinois’ Johnny Galloway at 5:22. |
