Feb. 24
Chris Heilman, Cornell College, Colorado Springs, Colo./St. Mary’s
Heilman, a senior 125-pounder, was named the Dick Walker Outstanding Wrestler at the IIAC Wrestling Championships after claming the 125-pound crown with a 9-5 win over third-ranked Clayton Rush of Coe in the finals. He became Cornell’s first IIAC individual wrestling champion since 1998, when Nick Dohrmann won the 126-pound title. Heilman, a two-time All-American, earned his third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III National Championships. (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)

Chris Heilman, Cornell College, Colorado Springs, Colo./St. Mary’s
Heilman, a senior 125-pounder, scored a 7-4 decision over third-ranked Clayton Rush of Coe in the final home match of his career. Heilman, who is ranked second in NCAA Division III, improved his record to a team-best 32-3. He avenged an earlier loss to Rush in the finals of the Matman Invitational Jan. 5 in Mount Vernon. Heilman is 2-1 against Rush this season.

Rob Struthers, Wartburg College, Emmetsburg, Iowa/Emmetsburg
Struthers, a senior 125-pounder, joined Wartburg’s 2007-08 30-win club with two wins last weekend. Struthers, ranked sixth in NCAA Division III, posted a 6-4 decision over 4th-ranked Seth Flodeen of Augsburg Saturday to avenge a loss in last season’s NCAA Division III national quarterfinals. His victory sparked a 28-9 win for the top-ranked Knights over second-ranked and perennial mat rival Augsburg. The dual win, one of the largest in the series between the schools, increased Wartburg’s dual win string to 29 in a row. Struthers added a 4:00 technical fall over Cornell’s Cole Mason Friday evening as the Knights posted a 50-0 win over the Rams.

Luke Satern, Buena Vista University, Humboldt, Iowa/Humboldt
Satern, a sophomore 141-pounder, helped the Beavers go 4-0 at Saturday’s IIAC Duals by recording four pins including a fall over Luther’s Travis Grawin, who came in ranked 10th. The sophomore also split a pair of matches in duals Tuesday with Morningside and Northwestern (Iowa). Satern improves to 13-3 on the season with nine pins.

T.J. Miller, Wartburg College, Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls
Miller, a senior 197-pounder who is ranked third nationally, scored a takedown in the final minute of the fourth overtime against top-ranked Alec Bonander of Luther during the Knights' 42-0 win over the seventh-ranked Norse. The dual win, which was the largest margin of victory in the series since 1997-98, extended top-ranked Wartburg's overall dual winning streak to 24 and its Iowa Conference dual streak to 117. Clayton Rush, Coe College, Aledo, Ill./Aledo
Rush, a freshman 125-pounder, was named the Outstanding Wrestler at the NFCA / Cliff Keen National Duals over the weekend. Rush improved his record to 27-2 on the year with five wins. Rush posted a pair of first-period falls, including a pin of top-ranked and defending national runner-up Seth Flodeen of Augsburg. He also posted a major decision and a technical fall. Clayton Rush, Coe College, Aledo, Ill./Aledo
Rush, a freshman 125-pounder, was named the Outstanding Wrestler at Cornell’s Matman Invitational this past weekend. Rush improved his record to 22-2 on the year and avenged one of his earlier losses to second-ranked Chris Heilman of Cornell, defeating him 6-5 in the championship match. Rush also picked up two technical falls during the Matman Invitational.
Dec. 31
Pat McAuley, Cornell College, Austin, Texas/Lanier
McAuley, a senior 157-pounder, went 7-0 with five pins at the Citrus Open and Duals in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Dec. 29-30. McAuley improved his season mark to 22-6 en route to the 157-pound title in the Open Tournament, climbed to third place on Cornell’s career list for both wins (127) and pins (37).
Dec. 16
Aaron Cook, Buena Vista University, Waconia, Minn./Waconia
Cook, a junior 149-pounder, improved his overall record to 15-2 by going 4-0 at the Terry Haws Duals hosted by Saint John’s (Minn.). He posted a technical fall and a major decision in his first two matches before tallying a 7-1 decision over Drew Larson of the host Johnnies. Cook’s biggest win of the day came in his final match, where he upset NCAA Division II No. 6 Shane Walton of Minnesota State University, Moorhead by a 6-5 score.

Dec. 9
Chris Heilman, Cornell College, Colorado Springs, Colo./St. Mary's
Heilman, a senior 125-pounder, claimed the 125-pound title and was named Co-Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Dick Walker Invitational hosted by Wartburg. Heilman opened the tournament with back-to-back 15-0 technical falls then beat Coe's Clayton Rush, the No. 8-ranked wrestler in Division III, 7-1 in the semifinals. In the championship match, he posted an 8-3 win over Terrance Young of Iowa Central Community College, the top-ranked junior college 125-pounder. Heilman opened the week with a 13-6 dual meet win over William Penn's Shamar Haynes.

Jacob Naig, Wartburg College, Emmetsburg, Iowa/Emmetsburg
Naig, a junior 149-pounder, continues to hold down the top win mark for No. 2 Wartburg after going 6-0 during the week with three fall and two major decisions en route to the 149-pound championship at the Simpson Invitational. Naig also posted a dual win over Loras’ Chris Bishop as the Knights extended their IIAC dual winning streak to 115 on Nov. 29. (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)
Nov. 18
Alec Bonander, Luther College, Larchwood, Iowa/West Lyon
Bonander, a senior 197-pounder, placed third in the Elite Division at the 2007 Kaufman/Brand Open hosted by the University of Nebraska, Omaha with a 4-1 record. Bonander was the highest-finishing Division III wrestler in the tournament and was the only Division III wrestler in his bracket. He fell to Northern Iowa’s Andrew Anderson 3-2 in the semifinals after posting an overtime win and a major decision in his opening two matches. In the consolation bracket, Bonander posted victories over a pair of unattached wrestlers from the University of Minnesota to capture third place. (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)
Nov. 11
Chris Heilman, Cornell College, Colorado Springs, Colo./St. Mary’s
Heilman, a senior, went 4-0 in claiming the 125-pound Gold title at the Pointer Open in Stevens Point, Wis. He allowed only five points in four matches, opening an 18-0 technical fall over Indianapolis’ Josh Allen. Heilman followed that up with major decisions over North Central College’s Joe Norton (12-0) and UW-Parkside’s Brandon Kircher (11-1), before defeating Upper Iowa’s Tyler Mumbulo 11-4 in the final. All except Norton wrestle for Division II schools.
