LUTHER'S BOHACH AND WARTBURG'S DOHLMAN NAMED IIAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

October 3, 2005

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Luther College cross country runner Adam Bohach (Spillville, Iowa/South Winneshiek) and Wartburg College golfer Erin Dohlman (LeRoy, Minn./LeRoy-Ostrander) have been named the IIAC Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 2. The Conference also announced the Players of the Week for each of the Conference’s eight sports in competition during the week.

Men’s Cross Country – Adam Bohach, Luther, Spillville, Iowa/South Winneshiek
Bohach, a senior, won the 230-runner Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugold Open. His time of 25:28.4 was 11.1 seconds ahead of the next closest competitor in the 8,000-meter race.

Women’s Golf – Erin Dohlman, Wartburg, LeRoy, Minn./LeRoy-Ostrander
Dohlman, a senior, holds a seven stroke lead through two rounds of the Iowa Conference Championship with a 150 (77-73). One of two golfers to post two sub-80 rounds over the first 36-holes of the Championship, Dohlman has now posted rounds in the 70s over each of her last five rounds.

Women’s Cross Country – Jen Wendt, Simpson, Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley
Wendt, a senior, won the Simpson Buxton Open in a time of 20:54. She finished seven seconds ahead of the second-place finisher in the 19-runner race and led the Storm to the team title.

Football – Reed Hoskins, Wartburg, Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell
Hoskins, a senior quarterback, completed 21-of-30 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns in Wartburg’s 38-14 victory over Buena Vista. He finished the game with his second career 300-yard passing game and a 191.48 passer rating. It was his second straight three-touchdown performance and third of the season.

Men’s Soccer – Harrison Kibombo-Lugujjo, Wartburg, Uganda
Kibombo-Lugujjo, a junior forward, scored seven goals in three games during the week including two game winners. He had one goal in the Knights’ 7-0 victory over Wisconsin-Platteville, tied a school record with four goals (including the game winner) in a 6-0 win over Colorado College, Kibombo-Lugujjo finished his week with two goals (including the game winner) in a 4-0 win over Clarke.

Women’s Soccer – Kim Monigold, Dubuque, Freeport, Ill./Freeport Senior
Monigold, a junior forward/midfielder, had a hand in all three Dubuque goals in a 3-0 win over Luther. She scored twice, including the game winner, and added an assist as the Spartans defeated Luther for the first-time in the program’s history (six tries).

Women’s Tennis – Marie Schutte, Cornell, Boone, Iowa/Boone
Schutte, a senior, went 4-2 during the week with a 2-1 record at #1 singles and #1 doubles. She defeated Wartburg’s Amanda Barkema and Luther’s Kirsten Madsen by identical 6-2, 6-2 scores. Her singles defeat was a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Wheaton (Ill.)’s Elizabeth Maclellan, the 11th-ranked player in the nation. The six games Schutte won were the most Maclellan has lost in a match this season. Schutte and doubles partner Pavla Brachova posted 8-4 wins over Wartburg and Luther, but suffered an 8-3 loss to Wheaton.

Volleyball – Sheena Treanor, Wartburg, Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert
Treanor, a junior middle hitter, hit .241, averaged 2.76 kills and 1.24 blocks per game in five matches during the week as Wartburg extended its win streak to seven straight. In a five-game Conference win over Buena Vista, she hit .260 with 18 kills and four blocks. In 16 games (four matches) at the Loras Invitational, she posted 40 kills and hit .232 including a 15 kill performance against Ashford, a 10 kill performance against Loras and a .643 hitting percentage against St. Catherine. She had eight blocks against Ashford, six blocks against St. Catherine, and four blocks against Loras and Clarke.

Other Outstanding Weekly Performers
The IIAC also recognized the following outstanding athletic performances from the past week.

• Central sophomore linebacker Andrew Lehn (Packwood, Iowa/Pekin) recorded 17 tackles (six solo) and had an interception in the Dutch’s 10-7 victory over Simpson.

• Loras freshman goaltender Torey Murray (Des Moines, Iowa/Lincoln) finished the week with a 1.00 goals against average and an .850 save percentage. She suffered losses to regionally ranked Illinois Wesleyan (making four saves in 2-1 loss) and defending national champion Wheaton (making 12 saves in 1-0 loss). Murray also shutout Lake Forest (4-0) during the week.
