WARTBURG'S KIBOMBO-LUGUJJO AND CENTRAL'S BERGER NAMED IIAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Wartburg College soccer player Harrison Kibombo-Lugujjo (Kampala, Uganda) and Central College volleyball player Terri Berger (Sioux City, Iowa/Heelan) have been named the IIAC Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 23. The Conference also announced the Players of the Week for each of the Conference’s four sports in competition during the week.

Men’s Soccer – Harrison Kibombo-Lugujjo, Wartburg, Kampala, Uganda
Kibombo-Lugujjo, a junior forward, scored two goals and added two assists for six points in two matches during the week as Wartburg extended its win streak to 15 straight. He had a hand in all three goals in the Knights’ 3-1 victory over Luther, scoring once and assisting on the other two. Kibombo-Lugujjo also scored the game winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Loras, a win that gives first-place Wartburg the upper hand in the Conference standings.

Volleyball – Terri Berger, Central, Sioux City, Iowa/Heelan
Berger, a sophomore setter, averaged 11.18 assists per game in four matches during the week. She also had 20 digs, 16 kills, eight blocks and hit .361 as Central went 3-1 at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational. In a 3-0 win over #8-Elmhurst, Berger had 39 assists, seven kills and two blocks. She had 35 assists, eight digs, two blocks and three kills in a 3-0 loss to #5-Wisconsin-Whitewater. In just two games of a 3-0 win over Edgewood, she had 16 assists and two blocks, and finished her weekend with 33 kills, five digs, four kills and two blocks in a 3-0 win over Wisconsin-River Falls.

Football – Jesse Schmidt, Buena Vista, Laurens, Iowa/Laurens-Marathon
Schmidt, a senior wide receiver, had 158 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches in Buena Vista’s 26-21 victory over Luther and moved into second-place on the school’s all-time receiving yardage list. He now has 1,977 career receiving yards and a school record 31 touchdown catches.

Women’s Soccer – Alex Clesen, Loras, Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township
Clesen, a freshman forward, made her only shot in two matches during the week count as she scored the lone goal in Loras’ victory over Wartburg in a match-up between two Conference unbeatens.

Other Outstanding Weekly Performers
The IIAC also recognized the following outstanding athletic performances from the past week.

• Loras sophomore linebacker Brock Hall (Davis Junction, Ill./Stillman Valley) had 12 tackles, a forced fumble and an interception in the Duhawks’ 14-10 loss to Wartburg.

• Dubuque junior forward Kim Monigold (Freeport, Ill./Freeport Senior) scored four goals in two games during the week, twice in a 2-0 victory over Central and twice in a 3-3 tie with Simpson.

• Coe senior right side hitter Heather Noll (DeWitt, Iowa/Central Clinton) set a school record with 25 kills in a 3-2 win over Dubuque. She hit .362 and had six blocks in the match.
