DUBUQUE’S WILLIAMS AND LUTHER’S BRICK NAMED IIAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that University of Dubuque wrestler Cole Williams (Delavan, Wis./Delavan Darien) and Luther College swimmer Kristine Brick (Central City, S.D./Lead) have been named the IIAC Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, November 13. The Conference also announced the Performers of the Week for each of the Conference’s four sports in competition during the week.

Wrestling – Cole Williams, University of Dubuque, Delavan, Wis./Delavan Darien
Williams, a junior, finished second in the 165-pound weight class at the Fourth Annual Spartan Open hosted by Dubuque. He went 3-1 at the tournament including a pin of Loras’ J.P. Williams in the second period, a 7-3 decision over Iowa’s Oleg Polyetsky and a 3-1 sudden victory win over Iowa’s Eric Luedke in the semifinals. In the Championship match, Williams lost a 3-2 decision to Iowa’s Cole Pape.

Women’s Swimming – Kristine Brick, Luther College, Central City, S.D./Lead
Brick, a junior, posted three top-three finishes including two first-place finishes at the University of Chicago Invitational. She won the 200-yard IM (2:19.42) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:21.47). She also finished third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.97).

Football – Vance Schuring, Central College, Pella, Iowa/Pella
Schuring, a sophomore running back, rushed for 190 yards and three touchdowns on 34 carries in Central’s 28-6 victory over Buena Vista. The 190 yards are a career high for Schuring, whose previous high was the 175 yards he rushed for against Wartburg on Nov. 5.

Men’s Swimming – Alex Eganhouse, Luther College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington
Eganhouse, a sophomore, won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events at the University of Chicago Invitational against top Division III competition. He recorded a six-dive score of 228.85 in the 1-meter and a 225.35 in the 3-meter.

Other Outstanding Weekly Performers
The IIAC also recognized the following outstanding athletic performances from the past week.

• University of Dubuque senior linebacker Stephen Clements (Camanche, Iowa/Camanche) secured the Spartans 20-18 victory over Loras with a pass break-up on a two-point conversion attempt with 1:18 remaining to end a 20-game losing streak for Dubuque over Loras. He had nine tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack.
