RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (IIAC) announced today that Buena Vista University
basketball player Kelli Staley (Charter Oak,
Iowa/Boyer Valley) and University of Dubuque basketball player
Tyler Daugherty (Bellevue, Iowa/Bellevue) have
been named the IIAC Female and Male Athletes of the Week for
the period ending Sunday, November 27.
Women’s
Basketball – Kelli Staley, Buena Vista University, Charter
Oak, Iowa/Boyer Valley
Staley, a senior forward, averaged 20.0 points,
8.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game in three contests during
the week, shooting 23-of-44 from the floor (52.3 percent) including
6-of-14 on three-pointers (42.9 percent). In a 91-88 overtime
loss to St. Olaf, she scored 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting from
the floor and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. She also had
six rebounds (3-3) and a steal. She scored 19 points on 8-of-16
shooting, had eight rebounds (1-7), four steals and a block
in a 65-63 loss to Lakeland. In a 113-75 victory over Finlandia,
Staley recorded her fourth career double-double, scoring a career-high
21 points (9-of-14 shooting) and grabbing 12 rebounds (3-9).
She also had three steals, two blocks and two assists. The 113
points scored by Buena Vista is the second-highest single game
point total in school history.
Men’s
Basketball – Tyler Daugherty, University of Dubuque, Bellevue,
Iowa/Bellevue
Daugherty, a sophomore guard, averaged 21.5 points,
4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in two Dubuque victories
at the Mississippi River Challenge including an 86-84 win over
20th-ranked Wisconsin-Platteville. In the Spartans’ first
win over Platteville since 1984, Daugherty scored 25 points
on 4-of-12 shooting and 15-of-16 from the free throw line. He
also had four rebounds (1-3), three assists, a block and a steal.
In a 74-69 victory over Clarke, he scored 18 points (5-of-11
from the floor, 5-of-7 from the line), had five rebounds (0-5),
six assists, a block and a steal.
Other
Outstanding Weekly Performers
The IIAC also recognized the following outstanding
athletic performances from the past week.

Luther College senior forward Anne Straate (Postville,
Iowa/Postville) was named to the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Thanksgiving
Showcase All-Tournament Team after averaging 15.5 points, 5.0
rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks in an 83-51
victory over Gustavus Adolphus and a 64-59 loss to UW-Eau Claire.

Luther College sophomore forward Tony Brantner (Mason
City, Iowa/Mason City) scored 27 points on 10-of-11 shooting
from the floor (90.9 percent) and 7-of-7 from the free throw
line in an 84-65 victory over St. Olaf. He also had 10 rebounds
(4-6) and four steals in the game.
