WARTBURG’S MASON AND SIMPSON’S WHITON NAMED IIAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

CEDAR RAPIDS , IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Wartburg College basketball player Cashes Mason (Kansas City, Mo./West Des Moines Valley) and Simpson College basketball player Katelyn Whiton (Panora, Iowa/Perry) have been named the IIAC Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, November 26.

Men’s Basketball – Cashes Mason, Wartburg College, Kansas City, Mo./West Des Moines Valley
Mason, a sophomore guard, was named Most Valuable Player of the Nebraska Wesleyan Snyder Classic after averaging 17.0 points, 2.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game, and shot 77.8 percent (14-of-18) from the floor in victories over Peru State and Nebraska Wesleyan. In a 97-53 win over Peru State, he scored 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting (71.4 percent), had four assists and a rebound. He scored 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting (77.8 percent) and had three rebounds and an assist in an 81-58 win over the Classic’s host.

Women’s Basketball – Katelyn Whiton, Simpson College, Panora, Iowa/Perry
Whiton, a junior forward, averaged 22.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game and shot 66.7 percent (20-of-30) from the floor at the Wisconsin-LaCrosse Thanksgiving Classic. She scored 16 points (on 7-of-13 shooting) and had three rebounds and a steal in a 62-57 win over Carroll (Wis.). In a 77-73 win over the host, she scored 29 points (on 13-of-17 shooting), including nine straight at one point. She also had five rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Other Outstanding Weekly Performers
The IIAC also recognized the following outstanding athletic performances from the past week.

• Buena Vista University junior guard Kyle Stribe (Manning, Iowa/Manning) averaged 14.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in victories over Gustavus Adolphus (78-70) and nationally ranked Northwestern, Iowa (99-86). He shot 73.3 percent from the floor (11-of-15) and scored 29 points in just 30 minutes of play.

• Simpson College senior forward Ryan Hittenmiller (Dyersville, Iowa/Beckman) equaled a career-high with 29 points in an 87-80 win over Grand View. He shot 53.3 percent (8-for-15) from the floor, had five rebounds, two assists and a block.

• Buena Vista University freshman guard Margo Muhlbauer (Manilla, Iowa/IKM), averaged 19.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in victories over St. Olaf (73-51) and Nebraska Wesleyan (92-83) including 26 points in her first collegiate start against Nebraska Wesleyan.

• University of Dubuque freshman guard Jen Nichols (Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock) averaged 18.7 points and 2.0 rebounds in victories over Wisconsin-Platteville (71-62) and Clarke (83-75), and a loss to Concordia, Ill. (75-55). She scored a career-high 31 points in the victory over Platteville.
