CEDAR
RAPIDS, IOWA . . .
The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced
today that University of Dubuque softball player Hailey
Dreyer (Twin Lakes, Wis./Wilmont Union) and Cornell
College men's tennis player Bryan Henderson
(Coleraine, Northern Ireland/Coleraine) have been named the
IIAC Female and Male Athletes of the Week for the period ending
Sunday, March 9. The Conference also announced the Performers
of the Week for each of the Conference’s three sports
in competition during the week.
Softball
- Hailey Dreyer, University of Dubuque, Twin Lakes, Wis./Wilmont
Union
Dreyer, a sophomore outfielder/pitcher, has opened
the season with 11 hits in 25 at-bats (.440 average) with 10
RBI, four doubles, one triple and a home run. She has also posted
a 2-0 record as a pitcher to lead the Spartans to an 8-0 start.

Men's
Tennis – Bryan Henderson, Cornell College, Coleraine,
Northern Ireland/Coleraine
Henderson,
a junior, finished the week 5-0 with two wins at No. 1 singles,
two wins at No. 1 doubles and a win at No. 2 doubles. He led
Cornell to a perfect 3-0 week with dual victories over Buena
Vista (9-0), Bethany Lutheran (8-1) and Milwaukee School of
Engineering (8-1). (IIAC

Baseball
– Alex Martinez, University of Dubuque, Rio Linda, Calif./Grant
Martinez, a senior infielder, has opened the season going 13-for-31
at the plate with three doubles, two triples, seven runs scored,
and 13 RBI to lead the Spartans through eight games this season.
He has twice posted three-hit games, including a 3-for-4 performance
with four RBI and three runs scored in game one of a March 7
doubleheader against Waynesburg (Pa.).

Outstanding Weekly Performers
The IIAC also recognized the following outstanding
athletic performances from the past week.
Softball
– Simpson College sophomore pitcher Whitney Oviatt (Carnation,
Wash./Cedarcrest) tossed a complete game four-hitter in a 12-1
win over Geneva College March 8, striking out seven. She also
came on in relief for the Storm against Rhode Island College
and struck out three in a three-inning stint. In two appearances,
Oviatt posted a 2-0 record with a 0.00 earned run average and
10 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched.
Baseball
- Loras College senior rightfielder Brock Schneden
(Burlington, Iowa/Burlington) drove in six in four
games to start the season. He hit .455 (5-for-11) and slugged
.909 for the Duhawks with two doubles, a home run, and five
runs scored.
Baseball
- Simpson College senior infielder Jason McClaflin
(Altoona, Iowa/Southeast Polk) hit .500 (7-of-14) with a double,
a triple, three RBI, and four runs scored in four games as the
Storm got off to a 2-2 record.
