BUENA VISTA'S MUHLBAUER AND SIMPSON'S DUNLAVY
NAMED IIAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
PERFORMERS OF THE WEEK NAMED IN TWO SPORTS

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that the Buena Vista University women’s basketball player Margo Muhlbauer (Manilla, Iowa/IKM) and Simpson College men’s basketball player Tim Dunlavy (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) have been named the IIAC Female and Male Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, November 30. The Conference also announced the Performers of the Week for the Conference’s two sports in competition over the weekend.

Women’s Basketball – Margo Muhlbauer, Buena Vista University, Manilla, Iowa/IKM
Muhlbauer, a junior guard, became the 15th player in BVU women's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points as she did so with her fourth point against UW-Platteville Nov. 29. She finished that contest with a game-high 20 points, while matching a season-high in rebounds with seven. Muhlbauer finished the week averaging 16.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in three games. Men’s Basketball – Tim Dunlavy, Simpson College, Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf
Dunlavy, a junior center, was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Nebraska Wesleyan Snyder Classic after averaging 17.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while leading the Storm to a pair of wins. He scored 22 points and pulled down seven rebounds against University of Dallas, then posted 13 points and seven boards in a win over Presentation. Dunlavy shot 59.1 percent from the field during the tournament. (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)


Other Outstanding Weekly Performers

The IIAC also recognized the following outstanding athletic performances from the past week.

Women’s Basketball – Central College junior guard Ashley Gerst (Columbus Junction, Iowa/Wapello) was named to the All-Tournament team at the Monmouth (Ill.) tournament after averaging 21.5 points in a pair of wins. The Dutch captured their first tournament title since Nov. 23-24, 2001, and posted their highest point total since Nov. 21, 2000 with a 98-point output against Robert Morris-Springfield. She also shot 65.2 from the field during the tournament in addition to scoring nine points in a mid-week loss at Upper Iowa.

Women’s Basketball – Cornell College senior forward Tiffany Cowan (Independence, Mo./Truman) collected game-highs of 20 points and five steals in the Rams’ 44-33 win over Augustana (Ill.). Cowan moved into second place on Cornell’s career list for steals with 154 as the Rams improved to 4-0 on the season.

Women’s Basketball – Simpson College senior forward Carrie Larson (Tipton, Iowa/Tipton) was named to the All-Tournament team at the Buena Vista Classic. In three games during the week (all wins), Larson averaged 15.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals, and shot 53.8 percent from the field.

Men’s Basketball – Buena Vista University senior guard Andre Wagner (Omaha, Neb./Northwest) had a game-high 26 points on 10-of-20 shooting in a 62-58 loss at Gustavus Adolphus Nov. 25. He then posted six points, seven rebounds, a career-high eight assists, and recorded five steals in a 97-53 win over Macalester.

Men’s Basketball – Cornell College freshman guard Jon Crozier (Pecatonica, Ill./Pecatonica) scored a game-high 20 points on 8-of-8 shooting and added five rebounds and three steals while playing only 12 minutes in Cornell’s 106-40 rout of Faith Baptist, which was the program’s largest margin of victory.

Men’s Basketball – Loras College senior guard Ricky Kolze (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists, and shot 57.1 percent from the field in a pair of games against ranked opponents last week. He scored 13 points in a 81-52 loss at No. 3 Wheaton (Ill.), then notched 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting (including 4 of 8 from 3-point range) in a 64-62 double overtime win at No. 22 University of Chicago.
