Darrina Bledsoe, Simpson College, Glendale, Ariz./West View Bledsoe, a junior guard, scored a career-high 15 points in leading Simpson to its third-consecutive IIAC Tournament Championship Feb. 27. The performance marked her first double-digit effort of the season, as she entered the game averaging just over three points per game. Bledsoe also dished out three assists and charted two steals in the game. With Simpson leading by only a point with 30 seconds left, Bledsoe’s left-handed layup with the shot clock winding down helped seal the deal for the Storm. |

Margo Muhlbauer, Buena Vista University, Manilla, Iowa/IKM Muhlbauer, a senior guard, was the leading scorer in both of Buena Vista’s final two conference games, becoming the fourth Iowa Conference women’s basketball player to surpass 2,000 career points. She scored 22 points in a win over Dubuque Feb. 17 then followed it up with 29 points in a loss to IIAC co-champion Coe to conclude the season. (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week) |

Kayla Lincoln, Coe College, Maynard, Iowa/West Central Lincoln, a junior guard, led the Kohawks to a 2-0 record with wins over then-first and second place Simpson and Wartburg. Lincoln had 16 points and four steals as Coe beat Simpson for just the second time in school history, while winning their first game ever against a ranked opponent. Stacey Schutjer, Simpson College, Titonka, Iowa/Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka Schutjer, a sophomore center, averaged 16.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game as Simpson went 2-0 last week to extend its winning streak to 10 games. She tallied her fourth double-double of the season in a 74-58 win over Luther Feb. 3, adding five blocks and three steals. Schutjer scored a team-high 19 points as the Storm avenged their only conference loss to date with an 84-63 win over Wartburg Feb. 6. |
Jan. 31, 2010 |
Margo Muhlbauer, Buena Vista University, Manilla, Iowa/IKM Muhlbauer, a senior guard, turned in a career-high 39 points in a road win at Central Jan. 27, tying the fifth-highest total in Division III this season. She also pulled down eight rebounds against the Dutch. Muhlbauer capped her week with a game-high 21 points in a win at Luther Jan. 30. (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week) |

Amy Hamilton, Simpson College, Ames, Iowa/Ames Hamilton, a junior guard, averaged 15 points per game in leading Simpson to a 3-0 week which left the Storm holding on to sole possession of first place in the IIAC. She hit 11 3-pointers during the week, including five each in back-to-back win s at Luther and against Dubuque. Leslie Ware, Coe College, Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston Ware, a sophomore guard, scored 19 points, was a perfect 5-for-5 from 3-point range, and registered a game-high four assists in Coe’s 32-point win over Wartburg Jan. 13. Samantha Harrington, Wartburg College, Nashua, Iowa/Nashua-Plainfield Harrington, a junior guard, averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game while leading the Knights to a 2-0 record last week. She scored 20 points in a 94-74 win over Simpson Jan. 6, helping Wartburg to its first win against the Storm since February 2004 and the first in Waverly since 2001-02. During the week she shot 48.3 percent (14 of 29) from the field and 58.8 percent (10 of 17) from behind the 3-point arc. (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week) |

Jennifer Nichols, University of Dubuque, Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock Nichols, a senior forward, averaged 22.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals as the Spartans went 1-1 during the week. She shot 7 of 11 from the field with four 3-pointers and seven rebounds in a win oer Wisconsin-Superior. She then added 21 points and eight rebounds in a 66-65 loss at Wisconsin-La Crosse. Camille Stenhaug, Luther College, Rochester, Minn./John Marshall Stenhaug, a junior guard, tallied a career-high 28 points in a 79-51 loss at No. 24 Wis.-Stevens Point. She hit 12 of 22 field goals, including 3 of 7 3-pointers, in the game while adding eight rebounds, two steals, one block and an assists. Jennifer Nichols, University of Dubuque, Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock Nichols, a senior forward, was named MVP of the Wis.-Eau Claire Thanksgiving Showcase and helped the Spartans to three victories during the week. She has been UD’s leading scorer in all six contests this season, averaging 19.5 points per game. In the championship game against Northwestern (Minn.), the Spartans set a school-record by sinking 14 3-point goals. Nichols was 4-of-7 in that game and 9-of-23 for the entire week. She is averaging 26.3 points in three games to open the year, hitting 45.5 percent of her shots from the field and 85.2 percent from the charity stripe.
